"no longer the party it once was"?You're quite right, it is no longer a small marginal party, easy to ignore, it now has 190,000 members and continues to grow. Zack Polanski is asking the questions about wealth and inequality that Starmer's Labour has no answers to. If that is "hard left" so be it!

What’s happening in America is technofascism. It could happen here

Peter Thiel's data company is powering ICE operations in the US. In part 2 of the Nerve’s Palantir series, @carolecadwalla.bsky.social argues that the UK will be next - and we map Thiel’s network🧵

In light of this, I’m calling on Keir Starmer to ban social media for the over-60s, the only sensible response.

The Green candidate in Gorton and Denton is running on local issues, transport, infrastructure and the cost of living. Matt Goodwin ignores such trivia and is campaigning on an ideology of division, of bigotry, of the reversal of progress. This isn't a referendum on Starmer,

A photo of me in the conference hall with stalls in the background. I'm sat on a chair wearing a red jacket and blue trousers. My hair is done in curls and I look very glam! I'm being interviewed for a live interview with the BBC. There is a big light and a camera person in front of me

A very contrasting photo! Of me wearing a yellow t shirt worn my hair scraped back, I look a bit grubby and I'm lying on the ground underneath the floor of a house where I'm fitting central heating. There's copper pipe next to me. I don't look like the other photo but I've got a big smile on my face!

And just like that, in less than 24 hours I went from photo 1, to photo 2. From holding my own live on the BBC to getting straight back under the floor fitting central heating 🙌🏻

Elect people who live in the real world not those who set out wanting a career in politics just to stroke their ego!

I get really angry when Labour politicians complain that they lost a particular by-election because some people voted Green.
Labour lost because they didn't convince enough people to vote Labour.
And if you don't like an election system that makes things difficult for you - change it!

The astronomical debt from student loans puts kids from lower income group families off going to university and discourages others from studying courses that won't offer "a return."

That was obvious from the start and it's also turned some university courses into little more than finishing schools

Interesting that the digital inclusion committee groups, which don't include any AI industry representatives (I followed the link in the OP) weren't consulted. Or, to be more precise, very worrying.
- no user consultation
- no shared priorities
- suspicion of industry influence
- no joined up gov't

To say aloud that the vice president is friends with Nazis and to point out that his Holocaust tweet is crafted so as not to offend them is to sound crazy to everyone who doesn’t know both are stone cold facts. Frustrating thing.

Well, as it’s 28 January, it must be time to mark the 365th anniversary of that most rational example of that most sensible of judicial measures, capital punishment. Yes, this was the day Oliver Cromwell’s corpse was exhumed so he could be hanged and beheaded for regicide 🧵

The government’s suggestion that rolling out 20 minute courses on writing “AI“ prompts, sponsored by Google, Microsoft and Amazon, is somehow comparable to the founding of the Open University (the Wilson government‘s, & Jennie Lee’s, proudest achievement), is an insult to our human intelligence.

Being blocked seems to me optimal for Burnham. He gets to "would have easily won" without actually having to contest the seat, establishes himself as the contender Starmer fears most and, if Labour lose, gets "Keir would rather hurt the party by losing a seat, than have a rival win it" as a bonus.

A report from @jrf-uk.bsky.social shows UK poverty is 'deeper and more damaging than any point in last 30 years' - citing the government's lack of urgency and direction.
Poverty is a political choice - Labour have chosen austerity over addressing inequality by taxing extreme wealth fairly.
