My career began in electronics & now it's in IT. I talk nonsense here about my hobby stuff: Electronics, STEM, IoT, Meshtastic, Vintage 8-bit computers. My dog is called Holly & she's much cuter than me | West Sussex, UK | Views are my own humble opinions.

Getting over excited with the 2.8", ESP32-based "Cheap Yellow Displays", I bought a 3.5 incher. Darn, it uses a different LCD controller chip not supported by the common Arduino GFX libs.
Any chance someone knows what LCD controller chip is used and has example code to drive these things?

05.08.2025 15:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Last night, my old car was parked downhill on a grassy motorway embankment & I had taken half the interior out because I needed to resolder a wire. By luck, there was a utility cabinet nearby with an external power socket for the iron and I had an extension lead. I woke up before the job was done.

Milestone 4 doc submitted at end of last month. Yay!
What to work on?..
* Finish setting up Jira.
* Arrange annual, multi-platform pen test.
* API / DB integration fun with a new dev framework.
* Finish process docs for new Web site.
* Web site final accessibility audit.
....etc
Aargh.
Sprinkle in plenty of "Reasonably-priced"
04.08.2025 14:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I had the news on BBC Sounds playing audio on my phone early this morning, and the presenter said "Good morning to you, if you are watching*", and I thought, well that's a bit exclusionary.
*Could have been "listening", I wasn't paying *that* much attention.
Wife's office bldg was hit by lightning mid week. Today we went to take a look:
* No outlet power - tripped MCB.
* IoT server (not biz critical) - blown network interface.
* 200Mbit Home plug dead. Took in apart at home - insides charred. Had a spare.

01.08.2025 05:33 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Bought an ESP32-based Cheap Yellow Display (CYD) with touch screen to have a play. Found an excellent tutorial for a simple weather display at randomnerdtutorials.com/esp32-cyd-lv... then added a clock, network info, NTP time sync and a few other changes.

Reckon it'll be 30 mins before I can watch anything or throw my laptop screen onto the Tele.
Remind me why I hate 'smart' TVs so much.
Best wishes. Hope it all works out.

Yep, it got me at first & then I fat-fingered it in the pic setup - There's a bit of crud on the chip. The photo of the whole board makes the part no easier to see if you zoom in.
All confirmed by a Web search for both numbers..CL6291 gets you a DC-DC converter.
CL5291 gets nothing relevant.
Just correcting the ALT text for the chip pic - it's a CL6291, not 5291.

One of our cheap USB desk fans has blown its PWM chip - a tiny, 6-pin SOT-23 device. I've bypassed the board so the fan runs.
The chip's on AE @ 10 for 95p. I know dismantling the fan again, removing the PCB and using a heat gun to remove/replace the chip will be hassle, but it's gotta be done!
You..you mean... we're brothers!
OMG!
Looks like a big Rifa!

htop screenshot, showing CPU load average as 8.72. It was just over 9 a sec ago.
My poor Atom 360 box is doing its best at being an IoT server. Startup is always the hardest part - see pic.
It's hot here in West Sussex. The box itself is one fan down at the moment and tells me the CPU temp is 77C. The shutdown temp is 85C and it made it to 84C this afternoon.
Reaching the end of a 1 week experiment in vibe coding in Appsmith. Lots of REST API and SQL + UI design. I've not done heavy data coding for a while but I know my algorithms.
Conclusions:
* CopyPasta doesn't stick as a training method.
* I had to AI iterate through duff code - a lot.

I'm doing an eval. of the app development framework Appsmith, with a need to integrate data views & updates between database and REST API calls. Any others worth looking at, preferably Open Source or with a Community version?
