Light floods through a forest, with beams of soft golden light coming from the top and down to the bottom right hand corner. There is a clearing with a few mossy tree stumps, brown autumnal leave cover the forest floor, a few limbless slender trunks, and in the distance more trees full of leaves.

The sunlight brings out a touch of green in this Green Heron's wing feathers. The brown edging to the wing feathers shows that this is a young bird.

Nautilus Estate Chardonnay 2023 Nautilus Estate is part of the esteemed Hill-Smith Family Estates and celebrates its 40th birthday this year. Winemaker is Clive Jones. 2023 was another La Nina vintage with wet conditions. Sourced from the 30 year old Renwick vineyard. Handpicked fruit was pressed and settled before being put into barrel (20% new) for indigenous fermentation. A little lees stirring until primary ferment was complete, then went through 100% malolactic fermentation.

Fantastic value Chardonnay here from a region more recognised for Sauv Blanc, the 2023 Nautilus Estate Chardonnay.

Agree w/Andrew. Adding on, craziest thing in wine this week is from Jancis Robinson, MW. Much, not all, Provence rosé is based on a trend, & now: "…Provence, FR vine-growers say they’re paid more by grape concentrate makers designed to sweeten ketchup than by those fermenting grapes into wine."

I was looking at a small thorn bush to see if there was anything interesting and spotted a dry leaf that wasn't a dry leaf. It was a very cool caterpillar! This is a moth caterpillar called a Unicorn Prominent. They are found in North America south of the Arctic.
