Just discovered that if you recall an email, people apparently get curious and get back to you quickly. So today's pro tip: if you want a fast response, recall your email an hour after sending it!

Received a R&R (good news!). Due date is January 10th though. I'm assuming this date is set automatically and not by an editor who doesn't believe in winter breaks.

Second time in the last two months that someone proposes to collaborate on a paper and immediately suggests to use the data that I spent much time collecting.

It's not that I am opposed to working together on data I collected, but it still feels weird and I don't know how to respond.

Only unchecked dehumanization of an entire population can make you cause or witness this much human suffering and think it justifiable

The whataboutism in our midst is astounding. ‘Why do you only talk about Gaza? What about the Congo? Or droughts/floods in Somalia? Or Tigray?’ If this was genuine, such people would be talking about those important issues so they get much needed attention, instead of policing the empathy of others.

One of my friends reorganized his books by color and I hate how much I like it.

I am barely holding on to the chaos of colors that is alphabetic ordering.

We could start a company calculating realistic citation-price exchange rates :)

I'd also say that a citation in a top journal is worth more than in, say, a book chapter

It was an Iran-based research group so you wouldn't be able to receive their payments without immediately being tracked by the intelligence services, I'm afraid :D

I didn't ask whether they were open to negotiating prices :)

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! I haven't reported them, mostly because I think it's just very sad that academia incentivizes people to make such desperate attempts. But I understand others would.

I was just offered cash for citing members of a specific research group.

So many questions: Is this a new scam? Is this how scholars earn extra money? Is 50 dollars per citation a good deal?
