Which of them lost confidence in the other?

As someone from down south who is an economic migrant to God’s Own Country, you and Jack must have more brass than sense

I wonder what she thinks theoretical physics involves?

I was introduced to soda stream by the most middle class family on our road (Dad a PhD crop scientist at a research institute, only detached house in a street of small semi-detacheds) so I am not convinced soda stream is that class coded. They appealed to middle class frugality

I’ve just finished watching it. I won’t ruin the ending for you. Typically powerful acting performance from Paddy Considine….

Isn’t it perhaps more about how influential contemporaries saw him and wrote about him in their diaries and memoirs? Neither social democratic or union right trusted him and left saw him as something of a sell out?

We always used to use PFO (pulled and ****ed off) eg, haven’t seen Ian for a while, is he ok? Yeah, he PFO’d

No that wasn’t what I meant but I don’t disagree with your point

I’m not sure that’s the way a lot of people think about it. I.e they don’t think in terms of the trade offs involved (see also immigration where lots of people have convinced themselves immigration is a net cost to taxpayers when all the evidence is to the contrary)

Really? I think there are perhaps quite a lot of people who think those who don’t pay their β€œfair shareβ€œ shouldn’t live here

I’m not sure this is that surprising, fairness matters to people a lot and being able to opt out of taxes because you are rich is obviously unfair?

This is a really good point. Leeds has 3 variants of number 7 bus. 2 go near me, 1 doesn’t. I’ve never managed to decode which is which (online timetable not sufficiently detailed, no maps) so I never use them

WWII was won by people who drunk martinis for lunch. How though?

I wonder how it would improve if prompted to draw on materials from the wider module reading list. I found as soon as I referred it to specific sources from mine it improved a lot

Deep research would be able to do this I think. The student could also feed Deep Research the archival sources and it would answer your question based on them. Deep Research also has potential to be a good crammer tutor so not sure exams are really the answer for discursive subjects

My Dad’s comment on my doctoral thesis: you took 6 years to find that out? I could have told you that

What they said later isn’t my recollection of what they were saying at the time several beers deep at mid-90s union conferences 🀷

I think format is something of a red herring. Deep research gave me an idea for framing a paper I probably wouldn’t have without it, but it’s taken two days of hard thinking/writing to turn the idea into an 800 word intro and it’ll take me at least another 3 days to write the theory/lit review

Writing is how you think through whether a superficially attractive idea is actually good or not. Writing is the hard part of the thinking.

AMOLAD
LADOCB
The Canterbury Tales
Are the only 3 I know. They work so well as a trilogy about processing the war psychologically. What are we doing? How do we cope? What on earth did we just do?

It’s shocking in hindsight isn’t it? I think I’ve spotted 6 women: Meg White, Kim Deal, Karen O, Candida Doyle & Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyoa from Ladytron, any more?

Management is much more diverse, different sub fields have radically different ideas about what constitutes a contribution and what rigorous methods look like

This is weird. UKRI primarily exists because the kind of work it funds doesn’t have measurable objectives and therefore companies won’t pay for it themselves.
