This is the main reason I live in Southern California. I love stumbling upon a mind-blowing but statistically improbable restaurant at the far end of a strip mall in the San Gabriel Valley or Long Beach.

Trump shutdown of chemical safety watchdog could mean โ€˜more explosions, more deathsโ€™ in Cancer Alley On a summer night in 2023, an explosion at one of Louisianaโ€™s biggest petrochemical complexes sent a plume of fire into the sky. More explosions followed as poison gas spewed from damaged tanks at the...

The Chemical Safety Board does not duplicate OSHA or EPA. It's more like the NTSB of chemical plant incidents.

Eliminating the #CSB will mean more chemical releases, evacuations illnesses and deaths -- everywhere in the US, not just cancer alley.

just that period reminder that content posted to Bluesky is public to *anybody*. if you don't want to see it used in a court of law, don't post it here.

and DMs here are not E2EE, they can be subpoened. a great use for bsky DMs is to share secure comms and move the conversation there.

Itโ€™s a shame thereโ€™s no modern equivalent of burning someone a CD. Itโ€™s harder to share mp3s than it used to be in a lot of ways.

Existential Liberalism: James Baldwin and the Problem of Freedom The burden of freedom has always been heavy, and Baldwin forces us to confront whether we are willing to bear it.

Historically prescient.
What he said six and seven decades ago is still relevant and likely to become yet more so.

Turning off the Discover feed and using others like Quiet Posters or a topic-specific feed helps.

Sometimes Iโ€™ll search for keywords Iโ€™m interested in and follow people who seem interesting in the results, or look at who people I follow follow.

Wow, sick.

Opus is a bit of a hybrid from what I remember. SILK codec is voice oriented, but you can get high quality with good compression if the encoder uses CELT.
