Keeping myself busy with things: https://snwikaij.github.io/EcoPostView/EcoPostView.html. Curious about epistemology, logic, reasoning and stats - especially when they meet aquatic plants and biogeochemistry.

The priority of prediction in ecological understanding The objective of science is to understand the natural world; we argue that prediction is the only way to demonstrate scientific understanding, implying that prediction should be a fundamental aspect ...

Unfortunately, I have other responsibilities that day. Are there more often seminars on such topics, than I would gladly join. In ecology it's rather limited discussed (e.g., doi.org/10.1111/oik....). Perhaps because models underperforming on new data are less beneficial for an academic career?

Likely a two way street (journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.3197/...). Not sure whether politics being misused for a scientific purpose is any different? Which would suggest science to function as a political-value free institution would be preferred? Yet, many env. issues are societal issues.

I wish issues were more openly discussed everything is always excellent, great and positive. But, this does not let us learn why we can't be positive about things that do not work out; Because it does not sell or because of academic visibility? i.e., bmjopen.bmj.com/content/6/2/...

This ritual is what people want to read. I never read disc. assessing obvious issues such as iid, confounding variables, default priors and adjusting their discussions and interpretations. p<.05 or cred. int. covering 0 (same dogma). If this ritual is not followed it feels you fall outside academia.
