The animus people had toward her in Philly was incredibly bizarre to me. I think for most people here it never went beyond reactionaryism.

Personally, I've only been to the Mutter once. I do not believe they behave ethically with respect to their collections or what they choose to display.

I'm pretty sure this functions a lot like the "Who are your neighbors voting for?" question - people mostly predict that characters they like vote for candidates they like and vice versa. And Gen X loves Back to the Future.

This is also why I am by and large opposed to "AI disclaimers" in the academic literature. I don't care if you used an LLM to write your paper because if the data or findings are incorrect that's still on you, the human author.

I'm not a Luddite about this. My point is not that humans should not use new technologies. But, a collective hysteria over AI has led to an entire society so far out over its skis that it would rather posit the creation of a new morality than accept the actual limits of the technology.

"You can't expect humans to accept responsibility for the actions of non-deterministic complex systems with unprecedented powers."

The pro-social reaction to this is people shouldn't be using those systems, not that people should be absolved of responsibility.

We've had "humans are responsible for the consequences of the tools they use" for millennia.

It's a horrific sentence but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the meaning of the sentence is "Non-white people aren't happy even though there are more mixed race people than ever and cops aren't killing as many Black people as they used to."

Remember pogs? I had a slammer pog that had a hologram on it that said "OJ in the slammer" and my parents kept telling me I should keep it safe because it would be "worth something someday."

I'm no Terence Tao but 18 years ago I did summer research at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics, one of the many irreplaceable, federally-funded steps on my long path to becoming a physician scientist.

It can and they don't. If you're using resources the grant originally paid for you probably still have the same obligations you had before like making your publications publicly available. Also, jokes aside, sorry to hear it.
