YouTube video by Road Less Marveled May 1, 1969: Fred Rogers testifies before the Senate Subcommittee on Communications

With news that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is shutting down due to Trump’s meddling, it’s worth watching Mr. Rogers testifying to the Senate about the real value of what we’ve all lost.

We lost the amazingly talented - and visionary - comedian Tom Lehrer yesterday. I was singing his songs as a kid from old recordings, not understanding 97% of the humor. His comedy was biting, provocative, and WAY ahead of its time. RIP.

I am no constitutional scholar, but I can't help but feel that "the President gets to dictate what every university can teach and what every television station should broadcast" is closer to what the founding fathers were worried about when it comes to free speech than trigger warnings on syllabi.

A review for a Little Caesar’s somewhere by Kevin S:

Stopped into this Little Caesars just trying to get a $6 pizza and ended up in a full on action movie. Just as I grabbed my order, this furious dude barges in yelling about how I cut him off in traffic earlier.
Before I can even respond, he throws a punch but then out of nowhere the guy behind the counter jumps over it like he's been waiting for this moment his whole life and just beats the living hell out of the guy. The guy ran off and the cashier just dusted himself off. I said "are you ok man" and he looked me dead in the eye and said "B*tch, this is Little Caesars. We always hot and ready."
Five stars. Will absolutely return.

On the other hand, I’ll get New Mexican vistas.

I’ll take my option. πŸ˜†

Probably not, Justin … but you might spend more on the medical bills than the Guardians will…

All kidding aside, this team is utterly listless right now. Glad I’m about to leave for a two week hike in the woods without any telecoms - no way to know Guardians’ pain.

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant.

This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.

Look, everyone, including Trump, can have butterfingers, it happens. But let’s be honest, if Biden had done this (as with the tripping or walking the wrong way or whatever) there would have been multiple news stories and calls for medical examinations. It’s the double standard that annoys me

ON TOP of the ethical reasons to not use AI, it's also
1) bad at what it does
2) literally makes you stupider
3) has HUGE environmental costs: every search is equivalent to pouring out an entire bottle of water. It's not worth it to generate a cutesy emoji or have it write an error-riddled draft.

"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

This is awful, scary and sad, but not shocking. Exactly the kind of stuff that this administration is stoking and the nastiest of people will honestly be fine with.

How El Salvador's government impeded a probe of MS-13 ProPublica uncovered a previously unreported request where federal agents spelled out their suspicions that Bukele might have diverted USAID funds to MS-13 as part of the secret deal.

"In a previously unreported development, federal agents came to suspect that Bukele and members of his inner circle had diverted US aid funds to the gang."

Interestingly, if on January 6 the Capitol police had implemented the policy endorsed by this Florida sheriff, there would have been far fewer J6 defendants left alive for Trump to pardon.

As a history teacher, it is hard not to think of this image today:

It’s not just the violence against politicians who spoke up for the downtrodden and who challenged those in power.

What always gets me is the number of faces - of colleagues - in the background who are just … smiling and laughing.
