Ah. But no 3 sea shells. And not every restaurant is Taco Bell. So we still have something to look forward to!

06.08.2025 15:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0First thing I thought about was getting like 6-7 Twix just because of the disproportionate value. I kinda just want the snacks.

04.08.2025 22:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Maybe one day, that won't be true anymore (though I think that day is farther off than many are assuming). But it feels like if you run a company, you should just let everybody else waste their billions and you can just buy whatever usable AI service comes out the other side (if any).
04.08.2025 20:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The thing about Gen AI /LLMs is that they are impressive but not particularly useful. Which is why a lot of CEOs seem to be getting tricked into thinking they need to invest in them imo. They recognize the impressiveness but aren't close enough to the executional work to know it's a nothing burger.

02.08.2025 17:07 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Our centre centre is as good as pretty much any team not in Edmonton but there was no path to getting a draisaitl 2c. Carlo is a 4D imo.
02.08.2025 17:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Send him this for next time. www.absolutdrinks.com/en/drinks/ma...
02.08.2025 16:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They just signed him! So they have options now.
02.08.2025 16:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There it is! I willed it into existence lol. I think this is likely exactly what he would have gotten in arbitration. Getting it done in advance of arbitration protects Robertson from the Leafs choosing a two year term on a low number. It also gives the Leafs optionality to trade him.
02.08.2025 15:55 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0It's conceivable some Florida players do take steps back. Eklab is an injury machine, Marchand is 1000 years old, Jones was playing above his head. Then the Leafs need to get lucky. Either with bounces in the playoffs or with cheap bets that pay off big.
02.08.2025 15:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't think Minten and Grebekin are likely to be more than decent bottom sixers. I'm pretty comfortable moving them (though I agree, I wouldn't have targeted Laughton). I don't think either made it likelier they'd catch Florida. The path to that is having Florida players take steps back 1/2
02.08.2025 15:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0And they picked up one of their best ones off the waiver wire. Is like some puck movement on the d-core too but nobody is gonna give you Cake Makar. They'll need to make some bets.
02.08.2025 15:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0He's had one good year, and two fine years. At his high end, he's a decent third liner. Low end he's a decent fourth liner (~$2M overpaid). They are making a bet. Im not advocating for it specifically but I don't think it's particularly wrong headed. It's fine. Medium ceiling, medium floor.
02.08.2025 15:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If they weren't still a 100 point team, is be very surprised. And that's before they make any additional moves to replace Marner's lost impact.
02.08.2025 15:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's the exact kind of bet Florida made a bunch of times. No guarantee they pay off but when they do, it's a huge boon. I think the team has made a bunch of mistakes obviously but I don't think that started with Treliving and I also don't think the team is going to fall off to a crazy degree.
02.08.2025 15:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0What about Maccelli?
02.08.2025 15:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Nobody is. Florida is the best team and that's about things they did right not things the Leafs did wrong. On that note, the way they got so good is by making bets on players ppl didn't think we're as good as they ended up becoming.
02.08.2025 15:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Joshua is fine. Overpaid if he is what he was last year. Fairly paid if he is what he was the year prior. Either way, an NHLer. They're making a bet. Same with Maccelli. Pazzeta sucks but it's fully buriable so who care. Reaves was Tee's worst move but he moved him out at no cost.
02.08.2025 15:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Laughton isn't one of the worst players lol. They overpaid but mostly that was because of the retention. Carlo is good and also 28 years old. "Steep decline is a stretch". He'll decline over the deal but how much is TBD. Bertuzzi was a good signing. Klingberg and Hakanpaa were LTIR so who cares.
02.08.2025 15:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Beyond that, I don't really see this apparently blunder that Treliving has made that specifically kill the window. And I can point to things he's done that help it stay open (Stolarz signing, Knies extension, Tavares fleecing, etc )
02.08.2025 15:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't think that's remotely true unless you're saddling Treliving with not trading Marner in the 5 week window he could have. But I lay that firmly at the feet of Shanahan given he told the core they weren't going anywhere before Treliving even got there. Also, they had years to traded him prior.
02.08.2025 15:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Treliving's negatives are on the player evaluation side (though even there, I think he's not targeting bad players by and large).
02.08.2025 15:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Why didn't Matt Knies miss half a year? Why didn't Stankoven? It's ok to have expectations that someone paid to negotiate do it as well as their peers.
02.08.2025 15:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The alternative was getting him to sign a fair or better deal before the season starts as happens with almost every RFA. If you take the negotiation into the season, fair stops being acceptable. If you're throwing productive seasons away, you gotta get a big deal.
02.08.2025 15:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I liked Dubas and like Treliving but neither are remotely close to perfect GMs. Not dunces either. They have different skillsets.
02.08.2025 15:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Dubas approached negotiations (especially in his early days) from a perspective that they could get creative and have everyone win. Which is a good tool to have in your tool box but agents need to believe there's a walk away point for you or else, they walk all over you and that's what happened.
