The text editor could use some work and there are some quality of life things that folks take for granted that aren’t here (I seem to lose keyboard shortcut capabilities when I switch windows), but this is impressive work for a FOSS tool. Great start.

Example of the pipeline style non-destructive editing capabilities of PixlEditor.

I want to point out the non-destructive editing capabilities are really fascinating.

I think that it’s mostly benefiting from not being tied to as much cruft as other tools are.

I don’t think it’s there yet. Its interface feels intuitive to me but it seems to be less road-blocky for former Photoshop users than GIMP often is.

There are some obvious things the setup is missing right now (holding shift to straighten, for example) but the non-destructive editing is interesting

It also has a lot of procedural stuff in itβ€”think Yahoo Pipes or a similar graphical programming tool.

I’m impressed. It is genuinely nice to have a Photoshop-like editor that doesn’t have 30 years of cruft baked into it.

If I was doing pixel art this would probably be even better.

No Flatpak but I was able to whip up a distrobox thing and it runs great

OK, this looks super promising. It’s not 100% perfect yetβ€”I just tested loading an animated GIF and it did not load the animationβ€”but long-term, this is a potential suitor to the FOSS Photoshop crown.

Part of this was how they built. Rather than building something lightweight like Craigslist, they built CareerBuilder, a successful company, but nowhere near as paradigm-shifting as Craigslist.

The street team handing out wristbands

We got there day of, so we were WAAAY back in line, way around the block.

What I remember from that day: A guy in a suit pulling up in a van to sell us $5 pizzas. We were also handed bottles of water and (for some reason) small boxes of Raisin Bran Crunch. No milk.

The crazy thing they did at this show was they had this insane cage that people inevitably tried to climb. I remember vividly that someone managed to get over the cage and was immediately kicked out. It's showed somewhere in this MTV clip

I got to do something great a week ago: join a 25-year reunion for people who worked at #Napster. While the original experience was rough for most of them, this was a chance to process it with old friends. It remains one of the most remarkable stories of that era. wapo.st/3HdcJhv

Judge orders Workday to supply an exhaustive list of employers that enabled AI hiring tech Workday cannot narrow the collective to exclude individuals ranked or sorted using the HiredScore artificial intelligence product, which it did not develop.

This is interesting: people are going after AI-enabled hiring software, alleging it discriminates against people over 40.
