Seeing this argument a lot less but I like the topic, so I'll mosey on in...
"Superhero movies are today's westerns."
No.
1. Westerns were never tied to a small handful of copyrighted and trademarked properties
2. Westerns are wildly versatile and can be made for a fortune or a shoestring

Absolutely! And that great naturalistic dialogue, I believe it was partially improvised.

RIP to Jonathan Kaplan — Over The Edge absolutely blew my mind when I watched it the first time. A true teen rebellion film, it perfectly walks that cinematic line between emotional truth and reality. (Also one of the few original movie posters I own!)

Witnessed a punch out in the last 15 minutes of Mean Streets between a Mohawk punk rolling empty beer bottles and a zoot suit gangster wannabe. Ended with the Punk standing in the doorway holding a bouquet of white roses(?!) blowing kisses to Zoot Suit. Perfection.

Four most recently watched films: the sleazy action packed To Live and Die in LA (1985), the critically panned Bob Dylan written satirical drama Masked and Anonymous (2003), Italian giallo feminist insanity Femina Ridens (1969), and classic Mexican romantic drama with some witchcraft thrown in Doña Bárbara (1943)

Republicans are waging a generalized war on science, but I think many of them don’t fully grok that RFK isn’t at war with science alone or per se: he’s at war with sick people, and of the view that only the lucky should be allowed to survive into old age. They are know nothings, he is Mengele.

Colbert will be all right, maybe even better off. The world's his oyster and I'm sure MSNBC and Netflix will come calling. He could stand up the biggest late night YouTube channel in days. But they are just torching the Late Show, an institution, solely to appease a dictator. And that fucking sucks.

This was the order of events:
1. Paramount acceded to Trump’s extortion by paying a bribe.
2. Stephen Colbert calls his employer out for doing that.
3. Paramount fires Stephen Colbert for being honest about Trump.
4. Proving Trump’s bribe worked.

"NY governor says she told Mamdani he has ‘a lot of healing to do with the Jewish community’

New York Governor Kathy Hochul says she told New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani that he needs to make amends with the city’s Jews.
Hochul tells MSNBC that she told Mamdani, “‘You have a lot of healing to do with the Jewish community. Many of your words have been hurtful and hateful to people in their interpretation.'”"
Kind of weirded out by all of these non-Jewish politicians claiming to speak on behalf of the Jews, I have to say.

Honestly at this point just reply “don’t care sucker, we’re getting ours.” It would feel more ‘polite’ than a word salad of empty platitudes.

Wild how consumers are stuck in this noman’sland where companies continually serve us downgraded user experience slop and yet still talk to us in polite corporate jargon — as if they genuinely “value” our feedback and don’t just send it to the great dumpster in the cloud while profiting off our data

i can't even imagine the freakout if like mamdani or ilhan omar had ever refered to lenders as "shylocks." but unlike them, trump actually has a very long history of making disparaging remarks about jews

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
