Screenshot of excerpts from Tyron P. Woods The implicit bias of implicit bias theory. Drexel Law Review, 2018.

It discusses the race realist assumptions within implicit bias theory that misconstrue the relationship between racism and race (racism produces race as its effect, not the other way around as assumed in many psychology theories). Implicit bias theory's misunderstanding of racism has many facets: thinking racism starts as a cognitive process, thinking race would exist if racism were eradicated as mere difference, and over-emphasizing the ubiquitous potential for anyone to be biased at the expense of the culpability of institutional & structural power.

โ€œAlthough implicit bias theory appears to be drilling down to a deeper conceptual level, it presents a superficial understanding of racism/ misrecognizes the nature of racism & thus underestimates the scale of breach to be crossed through anti-racist agitation/ & inept in dealing w racist violenceโ€

โ€œWhat does it mean for oneโ€™s citizenship to depend on the violence of deportation in order to have meaning? Can we imagine forms of citizenship that do not require violence in order to have meaning? What are ways that citizens can ethically participate in realizing this change?โ€

Because visibility โ€” โ€œhaving been countedโ€ โ€” is at the heart of AI and Empire, itโ€™s a contradiction with art. โ€œHaving been measuredโ€ is what creates and binds the possibilities of AI images, the most interesting bits are when we surface whatever abstractions lay beyond what gets / can be โ€œcountedโ€

"fragmentations which give rise to communities-in-process are often imposed as acts of state violence. Anarcho-Blackness: A Conversation with Marquis Bey โ€ข Ill Will Marquis Bey discusses fragmentation, unsettling notions of blackness, and non-normative forms of insurgency.

โ€œidentity is not an innocent description; [it] is a normative regime resting on an assumptive coherence, knowability, and nonporousness/
race, gender, sexuality are imposed ontologies, we are not permitted to appear or exist without them/ This disallows so much that we might be or could have beenโ€

Impossible Life: A Meditation on Paraontology โ€ข Ill Will Marquis Bey on twisting-free of the ontological apparatus of anti-blackness.

"care is part of paraontology because it must continually think about how we are not what they say we are, and continually gifts us with any number of things we might not have known we could become. It thinks about the parts of you that were never permitted to be valid parts of you"

โ€œwhat does it mean to assert an impossible life? When one wishes to live that impossibility & enact radical change, it is difficult to do when the world is unwelcoming & hostile to such change, deeming one unrealistic, wrong, too-fast-too-soon, detached from material realitiesโ€

Continues the screenshot of page 11 of Jared Clemon's article "Oliver C. Cox, social science, and the Black Radical Tradition: a call for (re)unification"

This section describes how capitalism does not necessarily have to lead to fascism, since fascism is a certain state of capitalism - of democratic backsliding. Although ensuring enfranchisement is important, without undoing the capitalist mode of production, we just end up back to a captialist democracy which can always slide back into fascism. Oliver Cox thus shows how the root of racism, the frailty of democracy, and fascist tendencies that arise bc of the inherent contradictions all have their origins in capitalism.
