11.08.2025 03:25 โ ๐ 49 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 1Screenshot of excerpts from Tyron P. Woods The implicit bias of implicit bias theory. Drexel Law Review, 2018. It discusses the race realist assumptions within implicit bias theory that misconstrue the relationship between racism and race (racism produces race as its effect, not the other way around as assumed in many psychology theories). Implicit bias theory's misunderstanding of racism has many facets: thinking racism starts as a cognitive process, thinking race would exist if racism were eradicated as mere difference, and over-emphasizing the ubiquitous potential for anyone to be biased at the expense of the culpability of institutional & structural power.
โAlthough implicit bias theory appears to be drilling down to a deeper conceptual level, it presents a superficial understanding of racism/ misrecognizes the nature of racism & thus underestimates the scale of breach to be crossed through anti-racist agitation/ & inept in dealing w racist violenceโ

13.07.2025 18:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Continues the screenshot of page 11 of Jared Clemon's article "Oliver C. Cox, social science, and the Black Radical Tradition: a call for (re)unification" This section describes how capitalism does not necessarily have to lead to fascism, since fascism is a certain state of capitalism - of democratic backsliding. Although ensuring enfranchisement is important, without undoing the capitalist mode of production, we just end up back to a captialist democracy which can always slide back into fascism. Oliver Cox thus shows how the root of racism, the frailty of democracy, and fascist tendencies that arise bc of the inherent contradictions all have their origins in capitalism.
"unless we are willing to deal with the capitalist mode of production itself, all a nation suffering from backsliding can hope for โis the artificial setting up of a โcapitalist democracyโ which, if left to itself, will move rapidly back into its former positionโ
