15.11.2025 23:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had a great time at GSA with the geo community! But I definitely need to clarify that I have not been director of (or active in) the IAGD @accessiblegeo.bsky.social since January. The current executive committee can help with info, networking, and connecting with the org.
23.10.2025 19:09 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Aw, thanks Steve! I am so proud of our team and what we've built together!
11.10.2025 01:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We are excited to bring back GeoSPACE in it's full version - complete with virtual participation option for summer 2026. Content focus is planetary, volcanology and basic field geology. Come hang with the cool kids next summer!

28.06.2025 00:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0PETITION: CONDITIONS FOR ATTENDING LPSC 2026 Concerned members of the community have penned and signed an open letter to USRA/LPI and USRA outlining steps that we feel must be taken before we will consider attending LPSC 2026. These steps include restoring all purged abstracts (except those where NASA has specifically directed or first authors have requested removal), and committing to preserving academic freedom of speech at the conference. You can find out more here, and add your name (anonymously if you wish) at this link: https://forms.gle/G1yAxZqmDujbVDHR7 This petition will be open until the end of July. [Source: PEN newsletter]
Should #LPI and #USRA restore all censored abstracts? Should they commit to preserving scientific freedom of speech at #LPSC? And should they commit to not censoring #LPSC2026 submissions?
If the answer is yes, then sign this petition!

Large fire fountain shoots lava hundreds of feet in the air above a dark cone of rock. The night time view makes an extreme contrast between the red lava and the black rocks.
A second smaller fire fountain opened up next to the big one several hours into the eruption.
As the eruption progressed, both fountains shrunk in height and eventually stopped. This photo was 4 hours after the start of the eruption. It was over by morning.
One week ago, I got to witness an eruption at Kilauea HalemaΚ»umaΚ»u crater. The fire fountain was hundreds of feet tall, it was incredible! I am just getting around to playing with my photos from that night, so enjoy this belated look at eruption #11 in the 2025 sequence ππ

21.02.2025 01:11 β π 393 π 250 π¬ 14 π 10We just hit our 50 donor target, thank you all so much - I recognized many familiar names on the donor list! February 20 is the finale of this fundraiser so it's not too late to chip in. More funds means we can accept more students, and I am so grateful for everyone's support!
20.02.2025 02:28 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Geo-community: GeoSPACE needs your help. It costs about $2,500 per student to run this accessible field course and many of our students simply can't afford that. 16.02.2025 21:16 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 0 π 1Update: UF has decided my work is exempt from the DEIA ban as long as it focuses on research and doesn't "stray into advocacy". I'm happy I can move forward, but feel like I'm moving forward on a tightrope.
15.02.2025 22:17 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Just a reminder folks, this earthquake data comes from the USGS. The tsunami information comes from NWS. The educational information comes from EarthScope.
ALL FEDERALLY FUNDED.
These are your tax dollars at work for the public good.
Every single one of my grants is likely to get pulled out of consideration if this is true. I had millions of dollars of potential funding wrapped up into these opportunities, wasted potential for students in Hawaiβi.
04.02.2025 02:43 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 3 π 0Worried about losing access to US federal data that may go off-line, or already is? Youβre not aloneβbut duplication isnβt the answer.
Many ongoing efforts have already archived key datasets and many more are ongoing. Check out these existing resources and, if you can, support their work. π§΅
Yesterday UF sent out a stop work order on DEIA activities, impacting my entire research program, likely including @geospace-field.bsky.social. I put my whole heart into my accessibility work. It's hard to see it, and so many other worthy equity projects crushed π
