AOC says people are being 'algorithmically polarized' by social media "There are people that are living in a MAGA universe online," Ocasio-Cortez said. "And that happens as well in progressive content and algorithms."

This is obviously true and eventually countries are going to have to address this problem. It's a rigged system and social media rewards extreme behavior.

Can't wait to see what happens with CBS after being run by a nepo baby and leaving the news to a bizarre rightwing grifter. Won't be pretty.

I use some vegetable stock too, so it's a plant based meal.

Super simple. Sauteed onion/garlic plus carrots and roasted tomato, then some fresh thyme and bay leaf. Apparently the beans came from Argentina around 100 years ago. I love seeing them in the autumn markets.

I only smoked briefly, during a stressful period years ago and thankfully had no problem stopping. I'll probably have a few glasses of wine every now and then but thought it was easier to just give it up completely for a while.

That's good to hear. I haven't tried them because I avoid processed food but I'm glad to see there's a market for more vegetarian options.

Related, Gen Z giving up booze! This was a hot topic of discussion Sunday night with my former neighbors. They invited their Gen Z son who rarely drinks alcohol.

In my case, I gave up meat and also cut added sugar. I've been on the dry since early this year and may have a glass or two of wine over the holidays. Only a few moments with refined flour and most of the apero foods outside of raw veggies.

More veg, less meat: the latest global update on a diet thatโ€™s good for people and the planet Most New Zealand adults consume more protein than the recommended amount. They could reduce meat without risking inadequate protein intake.

EU cattle farmers are whining about veggie burgers, but as this recent study explains, eating less meat and more vegetables is both good for humans and good for the planet.

The recommendations are pretty much what I started earlier this year.

That's a really cool setup. I thought it was a cat rig but never heard of that arrangement where the lower boom isn't attached to the mast. Must be a blast!

Personally I don't eat veggie burgers or veggie steaks but still find this ridiculous. Nobody confuses them and it's 100% about livestock farmers worrying about any competition.

The paimpol beans have been in the markets the last 3 weeks though I don't know how long they'll stick around. They're very tasty though not as creamy as borlotti beans, but well worth the cooking.

I like both a lot but do tend to favor borlotti beans. I'm hoping to find them at the market next weekend because I only saw them at a few stands, after I bought these.

Cooking the coco de paimpol today. I bought a big bag of them at the market and roasted sowm cherry tomatoes then added them to sauteed onions, garlic and carrots. These beans are fantastic.

It's not always easy, but I do think it makes sense to avoid giving money to bad businesses. It requires a bit more thought and it's not always convenient but why should we reward those people? I hear Japanese whisky is very good! And a friend here has some incredible whisky from New Zealand.

That makes sense and it does seem to involve many issues. Airbnb has removed a lot of properties from the market here (and elsewhere) and Paris does have tenant-oriented laws but there isn't enough affordable housing available in such a geographically small city like Paris.

I still like walking through there but it doesn't feel like an area where locals live. The 20th is very fun and definitely where locals live!

And I still like the Marais but too much is centered around selling to tourists. It doesn't feel like a place for living, just visiting.

07.10.2025 08:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I agree. I hadn't been to Lisbon in years (used to go down for work) but was shocked at the changes when I was there earlier this year.

07.10.2025 08:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I used it years ago and it was fine but it feels like it encourages too many soulless shops and towns/cities focus too much on the visitors and not enough on locals. รˆze is still beautiful but it's a mob scene of tourists up there and very few people actually living there.

07.10.2025 08:06 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I was there a bit over a year ago for work (the first time in years) and couldn't believe it. Still beautiful there but it was crawling with tourists. It was often impossible to even walk in the sidewalk due to the crowds.

It's why I'm all for cities/towns going after AirBnB. In the south, I find รˆze is soulless with very few locals and in Paris, the Marais is too much like Disney since it has way too many tourists.
