*A republic is a particular form of democracy.
Don't play word games with people who constantly redefine words and concepts.
There is no need to debate people who blatantly lie. Challenges to "debate me and convince me I am wrong" are a disingenuous distraction as they will never admit they lost.
Three lies that Trump supporters repeated over and over, but are now contradicted by their action, and, more and more frequently, in their own words:
I believe in Free Speech.
I believe in Free and fair Democratic elections.
I believe in Democracy.*
I am not a racist.
I first put conservative in scare quotes when I had occasion to use it.
But I can't remember using the word at all recently.
True conservatives uphold Free Speech and Democracy and these values either apply to everyone (including non-citizens) or they don't exist

The movie of Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" is available on video for the first time in decades on Disney+!
In case y'all don't know how truly awful Stephen Miller is.
You know, the guy who is actually in charge of the Executive Branch.

The Oregon GOP just got caught using fake protest photos to make Portland look like itโs on fire. Their post about Trump sending National Guard troops featured stock and foreign images, not Oregon, not even America.
Manufactured chaos, wrapped in a lie to rile their base.
In those stories, everyone has the power to escape their torture IF they are capable of giving up their sick fantasies.
Living the dream has a completely different meaning if your dreams are nightmares.
From time to time I consider what a nightmare the world must be for MAGA folks who truly believe the bizarre accusations aimed at their supposed enemies.
I've read fantasy fiction that supposes that this is how the damned create their own personal hell.

Mike Lee: โRuss Vought has been dreaming about this since puberty.โ

Why can't people understand that this is about trust and reliability and not whether someone is a "bad boy"?
Pay more attention to what they do than what they say is good advice for more than just the Republicans.
From a purely statistical POV, any accusation Trump aims at what he calls the Radical Left could safely be assumed to be a deliberate fabrication and a possible admission of guilt or intention.
If he is accusing someone else, like foreign countries, paranoid fantasies should also be considered.
It doesn't register well in photos, but my dog often sits in the corner of the couch with her front leg on the armrest as if she were royalty. Both images are too cute for words.

What they do includes what they say in court since misleading or false statements to a judge can result in serious consequences.

06.10.2025 07:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We all can be inconsiderate without being a bad person.
I remember watching a comic telling one joke after another with great effect, but paused after one and waited for the eventual slowly growing reaction. "I do require you to think from time to time."
Good advice!
I've been pondering on the levels of meaning of the word inconsiderate lately as not thinking things all the way through (what happens after you do what you want?) or not considering possible results not intended by one's actions is a major problem these days.
This is not an "other side" problem.
tl;dr -- we need to be making sure that our emotional responses are not getting in the way of logical analysis.
Impossible and unthinkable are not the same thing.
In healthcare "We can't rule out..." is part of best practice. Under Trump, it should be our practice as well.
Trump is not forgetting to implement methods for required disclosure or accidentally creating obstacles to transparency.
He is deliberately hiding the details of his actions to avoid accountability while also taking advantage of our natural fear of the unknown.
Speaking the media, please stop using the phrase "lack of transparency". Some folks are finally saying "lying" and "lies". There is nothing wrong with using "deliberately kept secret" and "hidden" as well. The only person who benefits from giving him the benefit of the doubt is Trump.
06.10.2025 06:54 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0We need to think more like the fictional Sherlock Holmes and consider anything that is possible, no matter how improbable.
Dismiss only what is impossible to do.
The chaos, like the cruelty, is a major factor in what he does.
"This can't really be happening" is an understandable human reaction but denial gives the Trump Administration room to do whatever they want.
The media, in particular, is being too quick to dismiss possible un-American actions.
That's what Gulf of America, Canada the 51st state, and annexing Greenland were all about.
"No one should use the n-word" was Trump's attempt to slip the concept of using our nuclear arsenal to the military brass AND everyone else.
A supposed sly word to Putin was also implied.
Anyone reflexively wanting to respond that Trump would asking people to swear personal allegiance to him is ridiculous should pause and reflect on the events of the past 9 months.
Actually, the events of the past week are enough.
Trump has deliberately acted in a way to make NOTHING unthinkable.
Now you have me wondering what oaths, if any, legacy and current ICE and CPD agents take.
Given that their identities are deliberately hidden making them unaccountable for their illegal actions, we also don't know if they are swearing loyalty to Donald Trump.
