Jones said about 70% of Muni now runs on headway management, improving service by focusing on frequency over time-based schedules. Riders can now better plan for trips knowing how often a vehicle arrives rather than a vehicle that arrives at a specific time, he added.

In a quarterly update on Muni performacne, Director of Transit Brent Jones said the SFMTA is aiming for 80%+ rider satisfaction. In 2024, Muni received a 72% rider satisfaction, the highest rating in years.

The SFMTA secured a $41 million grant from the California Transportation Commission to fund the replacement of the subway's train control system. The first phase of the project is anticipated for completion in 2028 and will focus on the surface along the Embarcadero, Kirschbaum said.

Kirschbaum noted several summer events that took place since the last board meeting, including Juneteenth and Pride. The city also hosted the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) rail conference.
