Art historian @ Tulane. Working on visual, material and built cultures of early modern Northern Europe, the Spanish empire and the Dutch Atlantic. Never too busy for a happy hour. My employer really wants me to note: all these views are mine not theirs.

Seriously I have an addiction to editing books. I may be a masochist. I have edited 3 books since 2023. Another one is midstream. And I’ve allowed another one into my heart because it addresses a real pedagogical need. What is wrong with me?

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

Fascinating to read as many of us sit at institutions making similar speculative real estate gambles….

So I have now received 2 written warnings from higher ups for having signage up about ICE requiring a judicial warrant to enter the art building/class rooms. Pretty sure TUPD the one who went around tearing down signs in the first place. This institutional β€œneutrality” in action.

They want you not to care. They want you not to care that this is wrong and it is happening and it's happening all around us. Most of all, they want you not to care about these people. And we can't let them.

The perilous tween years of eye rolling do eventually give way, around 14/15 , to your own points being repeated back to you knowingly, as if you, the grown person, are new. Not sure which is worse.

An individual with short hair and glasses stands outdoors wearing a dark grey sweatshirt with an illustration of a tiger wearing a headband that reads "FIGHT ON." They have a neutral expression and hands clasped. Tall, dried grass is in the background. A headline reads: "She Fought a Book Ban. She May Never Teach Again." If I were a blue state governor, I’d be looking into adding a bunch of tenure lines at my state schools.

I know that seems like β€œkick β€˜em when they’re down,” but it’s more like β€œlet academics who can escape to where they can do real work.”

Builds up your own schools AND protect US academic output.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
