Has a character named Elias Vance come up for you when using Al?
I just completed a novella and lo, there was Elias Vance as a main character. Little did I know this dude is some kind of Al trope on the level of Not_ but _
_. Have you ever seen Elias Vance?

Hello friends, a quick break from the current story line with a preview of my first book and a question. The preview will be in comments but my question is, should I wait till it's finished to release it fully or release it chapter by chapter somewhere?

The world was dying, and Dr. Elias Vance was running out of time.
He sat in the sterile glow of his lab, exhaustion clinging to him like a second skin. The hum of machines filled the silence, a constant reminder that progress was slow-too slow. Outside, the city was unraveling. The news reports played on a loop: hospitals overflowing, governments scrambling, bodies piling up in makeshift morgues. The virus-an enemy unseen and unstoppable-was winning.
Failure. Again.

Two black women at the Ritzy, loudly laughing to the point of suffocation at the romance dialogue between Anakin and Padme in Attack of the Clones. I normally hate loud interruptions at the cinema but this one was glorious.

I mean, I love Life on Mars and it still gets me in the feels despite having listened to it hundreds of times but this is great. Unlike a lot of videos in the genre, I actually believe he hasn't listened to it before too.

Raising your hand to placate someone and then remembering how the way you chose to dress might change that meaning of that gesture.

The Substack app apparently push alert promoted a Nazi newsletter to several users. Users have complained about it on Substack Notes but the company hasn’t responded. Generally push alert promos are for content a user is likely to interact with

AI would have made a version of Jaws where you see the shark in the first minute, being that the only reason they hid it in the first place was that the model stopped working.

I feel that this has given me a nuanced and refined understanding of the music of the Eurhythmics. How banal of me to listen to Sweet Dreams so many time without pondering their inherent, etymological goodness.

Something about Sweet Caroline always makes me picture getting kicked in the head in a car park outside a pub with carpet and frosted glass somewhere in Zone 6.

Tens of thousands of people take to streets for London Trans+ Pride 2025 Event becomes biggest of its kind as more than 100,000 turn out to support its ‘existence and resistance’ theme

The Guardian says “Tens of thousands of people take to streets for London Trans+ Pride 2025”

But only in the subheading states: “Event becomes biggest of its kind as more than 100,000 turn out to support its ‘existence and resistance’ theme”

Why try diminish the impact?

When you hear a person being referred to as "complicated", ask this question: Are they John Shaft?

If the answer is yes, it also means he's only understood by his woman.

If the answer is no, he's a racist.

Listened to Sabbath on the way back from the big Sainsburys and noticed a crow eating a rat across the road. Felt appropriate.

To all my friends with Substacks, I'm currently cancelling all of my remaining subscriptions. If I've stuck with you up to now, please take it as a complement but I despise the platform for its pandering to the hard right and for the way it tries to become the brand name for blogs and email.

Just don't mention any actual K-Pop act by name in a derisory manner or you'll get a a biblical flood of replies featuring gifs of members of that act making dismissive "whatever" gestures.

Watched Superman last night and enjoyed it but in that 7/10 way. Might have been because of another case of today’s audiences (phones , loud eating, talking) making the film less enjoyable but it just felt like the most sevenny film to ever seven the seven sevenny sevens.

But the article itself still goes by the author's name, rather than as an editorial. I don't think it's a bad thing for a site to publish work that disagrees with the policies of the publisher and then share through their official channels.

09.07.2025 15:43 — 👍 20    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

True, but I also think it's a good thing that the author can publicly disagree with Aftermath's decision and then post it on the Aftermath site with their blessing. Might even trigger another vote on the issue.
