Our team had worked relentlessly over the past years to make this tool, StateViewer, come to life and available to all neurologists across the Mayo Clinic Entreprise.

A great example of ethical AI use to enhance decision-making in real-life clinical scenarios.

Does Death Have to Be a Death Sentence? (Update) - Freakonomics Does Death Have to Be a Death Sentence? (Update) - Freakonomics

Many clinicians are uncomfortable talking about death. We far too often over-treat illness at all cost, losing sight of what truly matters - quality of life. Excellent episode about death, and how to approach this topic with patients and loved ones: freakonomics.com/podcast/does...

Understanding Blood-Based Biomarkers in Alzheimer Disease
YouTube video by Neurology Journal Understanding Blood-Based Biomarkers in Alzheimer Disease

After an β€œupdate in cognitive & behavioral neurology” talk at AAN, I was asked to chat on the Neurology podcast (also no bsky but my request to change that has been noted!) about some of the content. We focused on plasma biomarkers. Still can’t listen to myself lol.

The one case featured across LATE-NC papers appeared to have multiple neuropathologies in the medial temporal lobe at autopsy. Is pure LATE-NC a real thing? This is why we framed this syndrome as a limbic degeneration problem that is agnostic to underlying pathology academic.oup.com/braincomms/a...

EOAD is not an "earlier" amnestic phenotype. It's a fundamentally different disease. It's about time dysexecutive phenotypes receive the recognition they deserve.

Progressive dysexecutive syndrome due to Alzheimer’s disease: a description of 55 cases and comparison to other phenotypes We present a retrospective case series of 55 individuals presenting with a progressive dysexecutive syndrome with biomarker evidence of Alzheimer’s disease

Large-scale studies often report findings about what seems to be an unusual "young-onset, aggressive" subtype of AD. Clinically we call this dysexecutive AD. We clearly define the distinct clinical and biological features of this AD variant here --> academic.oup.com/braincomms/a...

Amyloid/tau PET/plasma do not answer the same question as a mesure of functional anatomy. It only tells us if amyloid/tau are present. It says nothing about whether they are relevant to clinical presentation and copathologies. Stroke/DLB/FTD/PD + positive plasma =/= not necessarily AD!
