UPDATE: The Renters’ Rights Act will be put into action on May 1st 2026. This means Section 21 Evictions will no longer be ISSUED after this date!

Since the ban on ‘no fault’ evictions was first promised in 2019, over 100,000 private tenants have had their lives torn up by a Section 21 eviction.

Renters need to know when the ban will actually come into force. It can't come soon enough.

Reports suggest the Chancellor is considering deep cuts to the UK’s energy-efficiency programmes to fund short-term bill reductions.

That would mean cutting up to 40% from Britain’s insulation and retrofit budget, dismantling the very programmes that actually bring bills down for good.

Check your local council website to see if your landlord needs a licence, and has got one. If they haven’t you could claim back up to 12 MONTHS of rent and be PROTECTED from a Section 21 Eviction!

Selective licensing is used by councils to improve housing standards for renters. When someone as senior as the Chancellor fails to comply, in undermines the entire system.

I'm on holiday but so good to see this is finally The Law. For too long landlords have had too much power over tenants, leading to poor quality accommodation, excessive rent increases and undue stress every time your tenancy comes up for renewal. These reforms are a huge step forward for renters

Homes are the foundations of our lives. Evictions shatter those foundations.

Last night the Renters' Rights Act became law, paving the way for the end of S21 evictions.

The Government must bring in the changes ASAP to prevent more renters like Christina experiencing this turmoil.

We did it! More than a decade of campaigning led to this moment.

The most heartfelt thank you to every supporter, employee, volunteer, funder and ally of @generationrent.bsky.social. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but together we’ve secured the biggest reforms to private renting in a generation!

The Renters’ Rights Act is NOW LAW!

Soon S21 evictions, which have forced millions of people out of their homes for no reason & with just 2 months notice, will be a thing of the past.

This is what our movement can achieve when we stand together.

The Renters’ Rights Bill has now PASSED through the House of Commons! We expect it to reach Royal Assent shortly.

This is a huge win after years of campaigning by renters. There's more to do, but this is worth celebrating!

Last night, the House of Lords blocked attempts to weaken the Renters’ Rights Bill, a huge win for renters.

The Bill now heads to the House of Commons for final approval before Royal Assent.
