He looked just like that when he played for City in the 90s

Great article that, thanks for taking the time to write it

I think I only saw them once in that thing called "In the City" somewhere in town, I remember them being alright, but I was only a teenager and probably just glad to be out having a pint

Didn't Paul Gallagher manage that band Performance? I half remember them as being alright

In fairness, Burton Road is one of the scariest places I've ever been. In terms of the price of a pint

Made the mistake of going to a pre season friendly.
Got what I deserved.
Will be back on Saturday

I think we missed him in the cup final last year. Against teams that defend deep he's a really useful player to have. The problem with him is that he's always got a mistake in him, which is going to be a problem in bigger games next year

Yep, I've sometimes wondered about that. Whether they did actually knock it on the head or not. There was definitely something special about city (fans) in those days. The worse we got the more we went.

I remember getting the bus into town after that match listening to some lads saying how City had done them a favour and that they'd never go ever again.

Egg stained, kappa shirt just to top it off

I still have nightmares about Martyn Margetson

That away kit we had is the nicest top we've ever had. What an absolute waste.

Well, that worked out well surrounded by my Spanish in laws in Burgos, who've been listing their recent successes all day

I think with football the ticket prices have gone up so high because they want to push working class people out of the stadiums. Top level football's popularity is made for marketing and they don't want anything to interfere with that. Like playing the PA system dead loud to drown out any singing.

I agree. Far too much money. The problem is supply and demand. They could get away with charging those prices. If Oasis were bothered about it they could have said no. But they didn't. But people need to say no to the prices, if the demand goes down, the prices at football/music etc goes down too

From what I can tell young people love Oasis. Anything that is popular nowadays is commodified and rinsed the hell out of. Maybe one of the reasons why Oasis are so popular, is because (with a few exceptions) the music/entertainment industry has a class ceiling in it?

I was there on the Saturday too. If they had stopped after Knebworth and released The Masterplan as their third album, they'd be thought of as one of the greatest bands ever. Lots of people do anyway I suppose.

My eldest just got up, he had the time of his life at Heaton Park last night. Said he's never seen anything like it. I felt exactly the same as him at his age after watching Oasis at Maine Road. What a day that was.

I don't mind Oasis. In fairness, I didn't know they had released any new material post 2000. But the thing is Oasis were quite popular, which made having a Manchester accent quite popular*. So, they helped a bit when you were out and about as a young man.

*Not in Liverpool

It's mad how indelibly linked they are to City in a way no other band or musician is. Probably all started with that Kevin Cummins photo shoot. I remember the first time they came on the pitch on Boxing Day '94 and the bloke behind us said "who are these jokers?", I took great pride in telling him!

Still not as impressive as Melchester Rovers signing of the Kemp brothers

I love Brian Glanville on 'Goal!'

Didn't realise he'd just passed away until I read the most recent WSC

I think we might have finally replaced Neil Pointon

It was the last time we beat them, it was in 76

That's a really good point. Also, they might divide opinion a bit more but I reckon we've also had two other top keepers who were below that top bracket. Tony Coton and David James. I think they both did a really good job for City, but not so well regarded for different reasons

I thought so, I used to know some of Gary's family, they were living in Swinton then

I think he's related to Gary Buckley. Who was at City in the Alison/Bond era.
