Today, @edupolicyinst.bsky.social published a groundbreaking report on the impact of school absences on the disadvantage gap. I was pleased to talk to the Today Programme about some of these issues and challenges.

Eminently sensible interim report from @beckyfrancis.bsky.social and the review team. So refreshing to see a non-ideological approach, seeking to tackle problems, such as the forgotten third, without sweeping away what is good in the current curriculum.

I don't underestimate the challenges ahead for the panel as they move from analysis and intent to recommendations. But the direction and approach signalled by the interim report leave me profoundly hopeful.

All of this without any compromise on standards and rigour, but with a determination for children, society, and the economy to thrive as well as achieve.

3. Ensuring that the curriculum and related materials are inclusive, "so that all young people can see themselves represented in their learning, as well as seeing others' perspectives and broadening their horizons".

2. A curriculum that is "cutting edge and fit for purpose", including responding to social and technological change. Good to see AI and the environment highlighted here.

This includes a desire to get the right balance of assessment measures to "capture the strengths of every young person".

1. Delivering high standards for all. While rightly recognising that many barriers to closing the achievement gap for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND lie beyond curriculum & assessment, the review promises steps to ensure the curriculum & assessment system reflect high expectations for all.
