Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902)

A sepia-toned portrait photograph of Elizabeth Stanton seated and turned slightly to one side. She has a full head of white curly hair, cropped close to the head, with a small dark cap or ornament perched at the top. A long dark lace veil falls from the cap over her shoulder and drapes across her lap. She wears a dark dress with a lighter collar or chemise visible at the neckline, and a long string of dark beads around her neck. Her hands rest quietly in her lap, one slightly over the other. Her expression is composed and direct, with a calm, self-possessed dignity.

A warm, color portrait photograph of Nobel Prize-winning biochemist and pharmacologist Gertrude B. Elion in her later years, taken in a laboratory setting. She is an older woman with short, curly reddish-gray hair, fair skin with freckles, and a gentle, warm smile as she looks directly at the camera with kind, thoughtful eyes. She wears a white lab coat over a light beige blouse and a soft beige scarf draped around her neck, along with small gold earrings. Behind her are scientific instruments, glassware, a large metal vat or reactor, and lab equipment, evoking her groundbreaking work developing life-saving drugs like those for leukemia, gout, and organ transplant rejection. The image captures her dignified, approachable presence and enduring legacy as a pioneer in drug discovery who shared the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

A classic black-and-white portrait photograph of Susan B. Anthony, the legendary American suffragist, abolitionist, and women's rights pioneer, taken in her later years. She is seated in a formal pose against a plain dark background, wearing a high-necked, long-sleeved black dress with elaborate lace trim and floral-patterned lace collar and cuffs. Her white hair is neatly styled in a low bun with a small decorative comb or ribbon. She gazes to the left of the camera with a calm, resolute, and dignified expressionβ€”her face conveying unwavering determination and quiet strength. The image captures her as a tireless advocate who co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association, fought for decades to secure voting rights for women (culminating in the 19th Amendment after her death), and remains an enduring symbol of perseverance in the struggle for gender equality. The soft lighting and formal composition highlight her as an icon of the suffrage movement.

Black-and-white historical portrait of Dr. Aletta HenriΓ«tte Jacobs (1854–1929), the pioneering Dutch physician and women's rights activist, shown in a circular frame with a textured border. She has curly dark hair piled up, a serious expression, and wears a high-necked dress with elaborate floral embroidery on the bodice. As the first woman to officially attend a Dutch university and earn a medical doctorate in the Netherlands (graduating in 1879), she became one of the country's first female doctors. In 1882, she opened the world's first birth control clinic in Amsterdam, advocated for women's suffrage, better working conditions for women, the regulation of prostitution, and international peace efforts.
