I also think he's just as scared of being deserving of happiness because if someone like him can be forgiven then all the people that he killed, that he was told were monsters, they deserved happiness too. and he's the one that took any chance of that from them.

Or that he can imagine hell but he's so disconnected from what he actually wants that trying to think about eternal happiness gives him a panic attack.
I also think him and Boudica get along far better than expected because they are both bloodthirsty and self destructive.

I could also see him as a guy who has given up, he thinks he's for sure going to hell, so he's trying to do the dirty work on the behalf of others. Which y'know, is still cowardly. Refusing to try and be better because it might not 'work' and there’s a chance you could fail.

he's actually been using the Damien method of simply refusing to die this whole time he's just better at hiding it

But a breastplate is the first thing you get your hands on if you can. like all the oversized pauldrons in the world aren't going to save you from someone stabbing you in the chest.

Rule one of Darkest Dungeon Fanart: you have to redesign Rey's armour a bit so it makes sense.

Like I get the point that he's putting this together piece by piece. He's an ex farmer, not a noble who could afford a full suit so he's had to cobble this together from bits he's found.

On top of that he didn't get the armour right away so he spent time fighting with minimal to no protection which has to have resulted in long term injuries. Even now he's not got armour on his legs so one hit to the knee and he's done for.

oh for sure, and if he doesn't have those problems it's because he's having to use whatever connection he has to the light to heal himself constantly (or as a pain killer which is only going to make the injuries worse), which means he can't use it for battle any more.

it does, he's got to delegate the brutal murder as he gets older.

For real, like he says he loves killing but has one of the best stress heals in the game. I don't bring him to kill things I bring him to keep everyone calm-ish
The only way that works in lore is if he's lying about the bloodlust and that feels like a bit of a cop out.

Hi it's rambling day. I think my biggest issue with Reynauld is his playstyle of he's mr hope-and-heal doesn't match his backstory where he's Sir Bloodlust Murderpants

The not so bad AU is 90% jokes and 10% hidden angst at this stage and I might just be cooking

I wasn't going to make Reymas romantic in the not so bad AU and THEN I saw the angst of realising you want to be intimate with someone only after it's no longer possible.
