I think if Sainz was going to Merc, it would've happened for this season tbh. Yuki would be a good pick and it'd be nice to see him get away from the Red Bull group, although I think Mekies will be better for him for that, at least.

It'd be low key a little funny if Mercedes went in a different direction after all the Max rumours

Remember "respectable" politics? Having to appear serious & law abiding?

Then came populism - Boris, Farage, Trump. Suddenly, fools could be elected. Leaders could break the law.

Now, they don't even care for smoke & mirrors. They break social contract w/o consequence.

Conditioning is their game.

It argued that players who were born male and went through male puberty have specific physical advantages in cue sports, such as an ability to generate higher break speed, greater hand span to bridge over balls and a longer reach.

A spokesperson said: "The court found that pool is a game in which men have an advantage over women and that allowing only those born as women to compete in our women's competitions is necessary to secure fair competition."

I'm 6'3" and these are all advantages I have over someone say 5' tall, of any gender or none. Let me tell you that my record at pool does not suggest any sort of advantage

So if we can get past Rapid Wien, AIK or Gyori ETO.

We have a real shot at the League Phase if we can win this tie.

Big IF though. Rapid Wien will be tough.

(Slight correction to myself: Charles undercut Oscar. But he still was ahead of him by the time Oscar got out the pitlane, is what I meant)

Hopefully we get the 2026 regs spot on and give Charles, and Lewis for that matter, the car to challenge at the front every single weekend.

For now, gutting. But we move. It's a lost season this year, and rather now than when in a title fight.

But based on how he performed today - he'll win it.

03.08.2025 20:34 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's not 2022 any more, and there's other teams on the grid that have much bigger issues with strategy than Ferrari do right now.

03.08.2025 20:34 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's not Ferrari's fault either, the strategy was sound and the second stop got him out ahead of Piastri, and he'd have likely caught and passed Norris on the pace he was on.

Chassis issues happen. It sucks, it hurts, but it's racing.

03.08.2025 20:34 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Chassis issues are shite, but there's literally nothing that can be done with it.

It's not Charles' fault, he drove an incredible race and deserved better.

Saw it today - if not for the Chassis issues around the last stint, Charles likely wins today. That's despite McLaren having that rocketship. He's a better driver, and if and when they get the car right, he will win a lot more races.

03.08.2025 18:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think they will get it right eventually. Potentially next year - an engine regs, one thing that Ferrari have always been good at is building a good engine. But even if not a dominant car, a competitive one at the front would be enough for him to haul that back.

I feel this is a stat that won't last the entirety of the rest of their careers.

After days of everyone questioning Charles' talent and why his stats "look that", I don't think there could have been a better race to explain exactly why.

Charles pulls off an absolute miracle with that pole, keeps pulling off miracles in the race by staying ahead of the Mclarens for as long as he did, does everything right (I'm not counting the penalty, at that point it was a different race) and it's not enough. And it feels like nothing would have been enough, no only one pitstop, no other strategy. Maybe not even addressing the issues with the car differently or having a car without whatever issue it is they're dealing with would have been enough. Because at the end of the day there's a practically inexplicably faster car.

Charles will continue to pull off Monza 24s and Austin 24s, he will continue to get poles like Mexico 23 and Hungary 25. He has the talent to dominate this sport, it's moments like these that prove it, but he won't until he has a car that can at least minimally match that dominance. And we've seen the start of the 22 season and what he can do when he has one of those on his hands.

"Why doesn't Charles have more wins?" "Why does his pole to win ratio look like that?" Because Charles has never had the privilege of being a mediocre driver carried by the best car on the grid. He's never had the privilege of having the best car on the grid for more than a few races, much less a whole season. The only privilege here is the privilege to watch the seemingly impossible ability Charles Leclerc has to outperform his cars, but on days like today it hardly feels like a privilege.

Some thoughts about Charles' stats and the bittersweet privilege of watching him outperform his cars

Mclaren isn't "letting them race". Mclaren wants Lando to win the championship not Oscar. The difference between them is small but at the end of the day Oscar is the championship leader and should be prioritized when he's in a fight. And the thing is he's never ever prioritized
