My SME 10th grade biology teacher was a finalist for McAulife's slot. TV carts were rolled into the cafeteria so we could all watch the news reports of the explosion. A usually dynamic, loud cafeteria was almost entirely silent, like a kind of shared hope had been stolen from us.
