Once compared to a summer’s day and found to be significantly more frigid.

This story in Crikey is nuts, because if you remember back to the Robodebt Royal Commission, it was the testimony by mid-level welfare bureaucrat Scott Britton that blew the entire conspiracy wide open. He litrerally was the guy in charge of the algorithm

Charles removing from the Royal family and then dunking on his brother so savagely wasn’t on my bingo card at all but I’m pleasantly surprised.

“Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” is probably as much of a mic drop as he’s allowed to do but damn

Fun activity take 1000mg of aspirin and then knock a pin sized scab off any part of your body.

As a suburban public housing kid I couldn’t afford uni in the 2000s, but I at least could afford TAFE as it was only a couple of grand for the year, covered by a payment plan and Aus Study. The same TAFE course is now beyond the reach of a Centrelink payment, even if you live with your parents.

The photography choices are so fucking good, and so narratively effective it kind of doesn’t matter what the plot or dialogue is doing anymore?

We’re all in purgatory. It doesn’t matter why.

I’m waking up from a nightmare every time. The seeds were there earlier but this season really feels like A24. If character’s faces started melting and sliding off their skulls I would just accept it at this point. I mean they kind of are psychologically. The story has kind of become secondary??

There’s not been a single closing credits this season where I haven’t sat gobsmacked at the screen. It’s like being force-fed 2000s indie sensibilities through a sieve made of 2008 financial crisis movies. But in pill form. What if Requiem For A Dream was about Banking but Sorkin wrote the dialogue?

At the end of every season 4 episode of Industry so far I find myself wondering what the fuck I’m watching (complimentary).

Visually, artistically - it’s off leash. A new kind of animal compared to seasons 1-3.

It’s nauseatingly compelling.

I feel worse for having watched it and I cannot stop.

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there

“Please predict what my wife’s nose and mouth could look like based on aggregated ideas about the contemporary beauty standard as expressed through pretend faces” is what you’re actually asking!

And then you’ll wonder why it clouds your memory of the way she’d smile at you in soft moments. I’m mad!

That’s where the art comes in. The choice between the sun and the subject.

Anyway please stop asking strangers to run faces through AI on your behalf because you’ll never be satisfied.

(At least not until palantir or whoever has such a vast database of our faces that they can fill it in lolfuck)

It’s ironically the reason so many tv shows and movies look flat and boring now - they’re playing safe by capturing the maximum amount of information and not imposing a creative choice until post production. To get a dynamic image, you usually need to sacrifice some information WHEN YOU SHOOT.

Back in the last days of the 20th century when I was learning about silver halides it was taught that all photography is information. If you didn’t capture the information, you cannot play with it. Digital allows you to capture vastly more information but you still need it to be there to enhance it.

I feel completely unhinged every time I see this subreddit because worse than this it’s usually people asking for their loved ones faces to no longer resemble their loved ones, or their own faces to not resemble themselves, and it’s GOT to be fucking us up to live like that. It’s just got to be.

No, they can’t - because that complete information IS NOT CONTAINED WITHIN THE PHOTO. Have we become so detached from how things work that we treat everything like magic now? These people don’t know what your wife’s face looks like! They can get close based on the zoom but it will be UNCANNY!

It also helps to understand that fascism is not just about authoritarianism, it is the political embodiment of the final thrust to consolidate power and resources for the wealth and oligarchical classes.

It is armed robbery and organized crime merged with state power.

(1/11) If you live in NY, you’ve probably started seeing a new warning: “THIS PRICE WAS SET BY AN ALGORITHM USING YOUR PERSONAL DATA.” This mandatory disclosure went into effect late last year, and it’s the first attempt by a US state to grapple with a new generation of surveillance pricing.

See Jamie there’s a bathtub with cum in it, and then a man drinks it. People allegedly enjoyed it.

Australia should do the same. We also lean too heavily on US-style urbanism, to our detriment. Correcting that requires us to learn from the non-english-speaking world.
We need an anglophone consensus that treats the US as the anomaly that it is in urbanism (and a multitude of other areas)

When my only experience of Emerald Fennell was the bathtub cum drinking movie, I thought [the director] was a man.

Think I’ll sit this discourse out, lol

Let's seriously talk about whooping cough, because sanitised admin speak doesn't cut it. A baby or toddler. YOUR baby or toddler in hospital on oxygen, fighting for every breath. The heart wrenching whooping is the noise of her trying to breathe in. /2

The first one is also pretty brutal. ‘Take a breath’ and be less emotional!!!! From the chatbot plagiarism & fraud fuckbuddy!

If we can get them to impregnate cis women and then complain about child support there’ll literally be nothing left to do for like 60% of straight men. Spectacular.

We’ve moved beyond the need for men, because that is some A Grade gaslighting in the second pic, curated from billions of ex boyfriend texts. Imagine getting ‘we were never officially together’ from your robot with benefits. Outstanding work, human race.

Just a reminder: The Tasmanian Premier has spent a fortune creating a luxury suite of offices in Launceston, where he now lives.

He demanded a new kitchen 10m down the corridor from the nearest one, as he doesn’t want to share with his ministerial colleagues.

Our taxpayer $ at work.
