Being visible is so important, especially in small towns. It lets people know that they aren't alone; that they can feel empowered. Whether it's the immigrant woman who wants to march, or the kids curiously peering out the car window as their parents drive by...

After introductions, I explained that I was on my way home at the moment, but told her when we would next be out protesting, and it sounds like she's going to be joining us!

But she corrected me: "No! Thank you! You don't understand. I'm an immigrant, and this means so much to me." I was feeling all the feels at that point. I found myself telling her how sorry I was for everything happening in this country, and she asked if she could walk with us.

On my walk home I was carrying my sign (ICE out 4 Good), because why not? A woman across the street was bringing her bins to the curb and called out a "thank you." I was attempting to modestly defer the compliment. I'm not doing it for "thanks," etc.

A 🧵: I was reminded today, on a very personal level, why protests matter, and how the mattering shows they work. I'm part of a small town, spontaneously organized protest group. Tonight I was protesting out at the 4-way stop during what passes for our rush hour. It was very positive! 1/6

1. I don't live in NY, so I don't have any skin in that game.
2. I'm not sure in what context this might have been said.
3. The people of his city elected him, so I'll trust that they got what they wanted.
4. There's a lot of bitterness about Mandani that seems more rooted in fear than facts.

Trump is more of a danger to NATO than the DSA. But I will say this: If you're serious about impeaching and removing Trump, you're going to need to work with the likes of AOC, because they're the best hope Ed have that it gets done.

AOC has supported Ukraine and NATO. And yes, she generally does not support the U.S. Military Industrial Complex and certain expansionist tendencies inherent with it. I really don't care about the actual DSA group. Political factions/parties, like religion, are just extensions of tribalism.

That's ridiculous. AOC does not want to end NATO. And she's appalled by what's happening in Iran, as is everyone I've talked to.

I agree. There are too many spineless Dems who listen to their focus groups and consultants rather than their constituents.

We agree. The leadership needs to have their feet held to the fire on this. Like I've said, I'm all in on filing impeachment charges. I've said they should file new charges every single week at the least. And I say that knowing it won't remove him yet. But it puts GOP on their heals.

Again... the point is that as a MINORITY PARTY they don't have all the tools they need to do what we want them to do. It is OUR JOB to...
1. Elect candidates that WILL do the job, and...
2. Elect enough of them so they CAN do the job.

Dems *have* introduced articles of impeachment. Al Green and Shri Thanedar, to be precise. They are trying. But even they know it won't likely succeed until Dems control at least the House.

Fair enough. We wouldn't actually know what they would do if given the chance.

But if the past is precedent, it can be inferred that they won't do what's right. They haven't exactly inspired a lot of faith in them.

The "so what" is simply that it doesn't do any good getting angry at Dems for not "impeaching and removing" Trump at this point. Now, if you want to get angry about something, get angry that more Dems aren't *running* on impeachment. That's actually something they can/should be doing.

I have advocated for this. But my point is that it's unlikely to even reach the senate, where the "remove" part happens. It's really only going to put the House GOP on their heals.

Dems can't impeach or remove Trump right now. They need a majority in the House in order to impeach, and they need a 2/3s majority in the senate to convict. Dems are minorities in both chambers. That doesn't stop them from introducing articles of impeachment (which they should), but they won't pass.
