Earthquake! 500 miles away and I still felt it. It registered as 4.9 here but it was 7.7 at the epicenter. Damn. That’s a big earthquake, and I’m from California.

I just saw and sent you a message. I'm glad you're ok. I was in Loma Prieta.. 7.7 sounds terrifying. The aftershocks are scary too.

When many people start worrying they may lose their jobs, they spend less and save more, which reduces the incomes of others, which results in fewer jobs, which reduces incomes, which kills jobs and that feedback loop is a recession. A solid universal basic income floor would reduce recession risks.

Based on 2025 poverty guidelines, a universal basic income would need to be set at around $1300/mo per adult and $450/mo per kid to essentially abolish poverty in the US. The net cost of creating such a poverty-ending UBI floor would also end the trillions a year we spend on all effects of poverty.
