11.08.2025 02:36 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Due to my bug-loving son, I know about this place. βBall's Pyramid supports the last known wild population of the Lord Howe Island stick insect.β en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball%27...
10.08.2025 23:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0First iteration of Catwoman looked a little more feral
10.08.2025 17:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is very cool. Thereβs a guy who posts old Cincinnati history on a blog here but it would be really neat to see it displayed like this
10.08.2025 01:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We live pretty much smack in the geographic middle of Cincinnati so most everything of note is ten to fifteen minutes away. After living in California where the closest family-friendly brewery was 30 minutes away and a date night was at least an hour drive, itβs been a real pleasure
10.08.2025 00:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would love to be that close, but weβre only a 12 minute drive away
10.08.2025 00:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Bartender at the beer garden immediately sussed out that my youngest kid was a little down (he wanted to do the splash pad but had no swim gear) and made a Shirley Temple for him. This city is pretty great
10.08.2025 00:36 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dinner ended up ruined because the chicken we bought was spoiled, so we ended up in downtown Cincinnati at Washington park after some quick eats. Lots of people out enjoying the splash pad and beer gardenβ¦ ideal summer evening
10.08.2025 00:33 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I donβt think it causes confusion to 99% of the people hearing it
10.08.2025 00:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, as in my Philistine example: the modern version of Philistine would be Palestinian. But βPhilistineβ now means something pretty specific based on common usage, unconnected to Palestine. The way Pharisee gets used is similar, imo
10.08.2025 00:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Maybe, but like Philistine it has come to mean something specific beyond its original meaning. I think itβs a bit of a stretch to claim it means something it really isnβt by getting overly literal

09.08.2025 21:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I blocked that guy for being a bozo
09.08.2025 21:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I read a bunch of Catholic moral q and a stuff from the 1930s once and there was a question from a priest saying he had a parishioner who couldnβt afford more kids but her husband kept forcing himself on her, can she use a condom? Reply was: condoms? sheβs being raped, help her get separated
09.08.2025 20:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes.

09.08.2025 20:48 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also interesting to me that the American moral theologian who came out strongly against obliteration bombing even before Hiroshima and Nagasaki was one of the same theologians on the commission who said contraception was illicit
09.08.2025 20:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Same person. Definitely something to avoid if you are a scruples person. Basically it boils down to married couples should not even be taught NFP because it should be so rarely used, plus mental health issues are caused by people worrying about the wrong things so just stop worrying & youβll be fine
09.08.2025 20:31 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thereβs a fairly large subset of conservative Catholics who think the Catholic Churchβs teachings on sexuality are too lenient

It really gets to the bottom of why fascism is unique, and why it is uniquely bad and self-destructive
09.08.2025 18:28 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Paxton also says he thinks Trump started out authoritarian but after January 6 he can accurately be described as fascist
09.08.2025 18:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Paxtonβs book is pretty good about that. Heβs very reluctant to use the word fascism unless he thinks itβs 100% accurate and thinks the word gets overused to describe authoritarian regimes
09.08.2025 18:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0(Unlike in many other countries where fascism often came in explicitly Catholic form)
09.08.2025 18:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I just recently read Robert Paxtonβs Anatomy of Fascism and his take was that in Catholic parts of Germany, worker movements were tied to parish and city life in ways that made it hard for Nazi (or communist) groups to gain much support
09.08.2025 18:11 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Ohio politicians are trying to do this with Cincinnati right now, including calling on Washington to withhold federal funding from the city
09.08.2025 18:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0The author is someone one might describe as βstridentβ
