It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

Nobody likes this conversation, but if women didn't "man up" (aka just suck it up and keep going, which has no gender) as often as we do, none of y'all would be here today.

And other times I'm so happy and overwhelmed by all I get to enjoy in life.

Then it whips back again. (Let's not even address the state of the world.)

I'm not going to sugar coat. I'm 54 next month. It's awesome to be here able to say I feel more accomplished and proud and together than ever, and ALSO that I rise in the morning looking like Bill the Cat in a flop sweat, wanting to smash things, angry, maybe even at you. And it's FREAKING HARD.

But also you can't flag, you can't complain, you just have to integrate or fear your loss of "utility" to others. Maybe take some hormones, maybe it helps some, but like, even getting that right is a new project to nurture and manage and it still isn't enough.

And indeed, you really cannot help but feel that if such a transition of life was as strong for men as it is for women, they'd have complained about it a lot more in the halls of medicine that drive advancement and help us live longer and more productive and satisfied lives.

"Anything you can do, I can do bleeding." And then, this part comes...another metamorphosis.

Shout out to all my women of a certain age who are doing what we do while also being complete emotional tornadoes like nevermind, the ones who barely sleep some nights as we fight valiantly against the fog and heat inside. We appear completely normal to all but our keen close observers, and yet.

we would be better off if everyone accepted as a basic principle that the meat computers in our heads are weird and glitchy things that go to dark places and if yours starts telling you the Nazis had some good ideas you really need to take a deep breath and seek help..
