A secluded water feature at a large marsh. This view is about 1/4 mile away on a hilly overlook. Reeds are growing all around the marsh water and there is a treeline behind the water.

The image shows a swampy location at a large marsh. There are thriving trees and snags (dead trees) near calm marsh waters. Tree swallows love to hang oput here and catch bugs.

A billiard's ball sized hermit crab on a rope net climbing enrichment decoration of sorts. Her shell is white and dusted with pink and yellow tones. She is a desaturated red.

A delightful hermit crab owned by a friend of the family. She was a classroom pet a decade ago that their kid volunteered to take in. She has a huge tank and is well cared for but the industry behind pet hermit crabs is very sad. :(

A small turtle with yellow stripes on its face and a red patch behind its eye snuggles into a curled leaf from a pond lily with its back to the camera and its head turned to the right. It was actually captured mid-blink, but with its slightly upturned head toward the sun and a smile-like curve to its mouth, it looks like it is enjoying a sunny snooze.

This tiny turtle secured a sunny spot for a satisfying snooze.

A lone pond turtle basks on a water pipe in an impound basin.

There is an entire population of western pond turtles at a local water treatment plant and I cannot figure out how they are getting in and out of some of these large, rip-rap lined basins. So many projects I’d like to initiate if it wasn’t taking cdfw a year to approve research permits…. #herps
