Dangit, didn't know this was tonight. I could have civil engagement-maxed

Argo CD stuff, Crozet Virginia stuff Physically can't stop talking about bike/pedestrian infrastructure. It's a problem, please help.
Dangit, didn't know this was tonight. I could have civil engagement-maxed
11.02.2026 04:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Either way, my main hope is that we'll get a public bike path from Cory Farm to Colony, which doesn't appear in any proposal I've seen.
11.02.2026 02:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sure, it sounds like VDOT is loathe to have a public road transition directly into a private road (as opposed to connecting perpendicular or attaching to a termination like a turnaround).
11.02.2026 02:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That looks like not quite a connection to me. They said for a public road they'd need a bit of HOA land at the southwest corner.
11.02.2026 02:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sure, I mean in this case it seemed as though he was the one who was going to make plan changes and talk to VDOT etc. idk the nutty gritty of how that stuff works to me, I guess he's just the closest representative I see of "the project"
11.02.2026 02:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0idk what this means
11.02.2026 01:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah I'm not banking on Shimp choosing to do good work. I just wish PC had pushed back more on bike/ped instead of "townhouse beside single family home = bad" and "parking for birthday parties."
11.02.2026 01:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Genuinely have no idea where these people think everyone who works in Charlottesville and Crozet is supposed to live. So many people commute over the mountain .
11.02.2026 00:55 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I don't think he owns it, he's working with the owner.
11.02.2026 01:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh and @realcrozetva.bsky.social you probably bike right past the new "residents only" signs in my HOA. It's so goofy, it's unenforceable, and it solves zero problems. Just discourages people from enjoying our wonderful trails.
11.02.2026 01:16 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Qualitatively, then, following this logic, my home is built at a density of 50 units/acre.
11.02.2026 01:03 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 01000 times this. We lost bike/pedestrian connectivity to Starr Hill for thousands of residents, because it hinged on 500ft of private road that was closed to neighbors.
11.02.2026 01:03 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think if you are able and willing to burn a couple hundred thousand dollars fighting new townhome construction in your hoity toity little village we should be using the state to take more of your money and spend it building public housing on your front yard
11.02.2026 00:50 β π 29 π 5 π¬ 5 π 0Staff also clarifies that the deferral would apply to the requested waivers. Commission moves and votes for the deferral. I think I'm done for tonight!
11.02.2026 00:57 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Shimp asks for a deferral to "take another stab at it."
I think that's a very good idea, I agree there's stuff to improve here.
Staff asks if we should defer to a specific date. Shimp says indefinite, because he'll need to talk to VDOT and is not sure how long that will take.
Commissioner Carrazana, chair: says there's quantitative density and qualitative density. Says "qualitatively" this is 14 units/acre. Says it's not considerate to neighbors.
Me: again, that's the nature of buildings: they're not spread out evenly.
Back to Lonnie Murray: says this development doesn't connect to anything critical like mass transit? I think I heard him right?
It's RIGHT beside two shopping centers.
King: "townhouses are dense... there's not a lot of parking... People love living there." Says they're selling for $530k. Taking away units takes away affordable units. Says density may actually help solve stormwater management problems.
11.02.2026 00:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Commissioner Firehock, Samuel Miller district: not a fan of density at the north, concerned about parking. She thinks more units could be moved to the southern part of the development. Wants a community gathering space, like a gazebo.
11.02.2026 00:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0King is fine with having sidewalk in just 1 side of the private road, isnt worried about the school load of this development. Moore clarifies he's not concerned about that sidewalk, just the density at the north end.
11.02.2026 00:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"We dont have enough land to develop on... I'm very much in favor of the density of this proposal... do not think it's inconsistent with the types of housing around it."
King says the new single family homes are adjacent to 4 existing homes. If you swapped in the townhomes, theyd be adjacent
Commissioner King, Jack Jouett (appointed by @sallyforsupervisor.bsky.social): thanks people for bringing up affordability. Re: property values, they're "increasing exponentially," and development like this helps reduce that and lower prices. Says "people cannot afford to live here."
11.02.2026 00:45 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Commissioner Nathan Moore, Rio district: living in the development area means change. But isn't happy with the shape of this development. Says trail being half baked doesn't bother him "because most people use their cars to go shopping anyway."
WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT IS, COMMISSIONER
^ that was Clayborne, Rivanna District
11.02.2026 00:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Commissioner says he supports density "at the cost of quality of life." He feels like this plan is undercooked, especially with respect to interconnectivity. He also thinks the density of the townhomes on the northern end is inappropriate. And he thinks the green space is "underutilized."
11.02.2026 00:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1Murray: wants density, but says this is "inconsistent with neighboring properties," "abrupt." We wants less density and more buffering instead of all these homes "crammed" into a small area.
11.02.2026 00:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I'm not a fan of the idea of people parking along Cory Farm, especially as the Eastern Avenue connection will hopefully bring bike lanes. People near my house already park in the bike lanes as a habit.
11.02.2026 00:38 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Commissioner Murray wants to know where people will park for birthday parties. Shimp says there will be county-required 2 spots per unit and 1 gues spot per 4 units. Says people may park on Colony and along Cory Farm. Says buying a home involves tradeoffs, townhome = less parking.
11.02.2026 00:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Shimp is now plagiarizing my comments about people commuting from Staunton and the imperfect nature of infill, feeding suspicions of my status as a development industry shill.
To combat those rumors, I'll say: Shimp's private pedestrian connection sucks, make it public and direct from Cory Farms.
Shimp on this exact question: net density of the area would go up only to 2.6 units per acre. His analysis included a few blocks, which seems like a reasonable way to measure density.
