It’s my birthday and I, having a newborn, do not have the time to fish. Please fish in my stead.

I just would think this was a basic factual question! And I suppose it is if you’re looking at sheet music, but if you’re transcribing music, idk, apparently it’s just vibe-based.

As someone with some, but not a lot of music theory knowledge, I am captivated by how difficult a question “what key is this music in” is. You just kinda hope it starts or ends on a note that makes sense? Minimize accidentals?

The last of my Silksong LP went up this week, so now I can recommend checking it out in full. I really enjoyed the game, I ended up thinking a lot on design level pieces as I was going through this. An excellent title, an excellent experience.

I love it when people pull this “joke” out with names that are pronounced correctly by just sounding them out using your knowledge of English. Good work proving your reading skills can be beaten by an average 6 year old.

I think a lot of the backlash comes from people who never cared about adventure games making fun of a thing they already thought sucked. Which also explains why they think adventure games died. There is a joy to going into something with good faith and meeting it where it wants to be.

I have a lot of opinions about this but mostly they sum up to “yeah!”

Adventure games being dumb is a feature, not a bug. 9 years earlier than this we had to throw a custard pie at a yeti and it was also dumb and also awesome. There’s a sideways thread of logic that is so fun to unspool and follow.

@ndef.itch.io coined the phrase Notebook Mysteries and I’m a huge fan of that description.

I’m out of the game so this absolutely got me. 😭 I yelled “What” out loud and my husband had to calm me down and explain the glamour changes. 😂

I have no idea how big anything in this photo is, so my brain interpreted the slime as squishmallow-sized and therefore the screen roughly one square foot.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

It’s not in the zeitgeist now so I want to make sure it gets the credit it deserves: The Roottrees Are Dead is an incredible notebook puzzler. Honestly top-tier up there with Return of the Obra Dinn. What a joy to play and watch other people experience.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

I really wish Ed Markey would find someone younger who shares his ideals to replace him, 80 years old is too old to start a 6 year term. I will, however, vote for him enthusiastically over the trans hating ghoul Seth Moulton
