I can’t believe I made a person. What the fuck.

I’m already the kind of person who takes the drink home and strains the ice out of it. I’m not sure I can bear the additional quirkiness.

I’m a hot drinks person because as a drink goes on, I like to prioritize consistency of flavor over consistency of temperature. Hot drinks cool off but iced drinks get *watered down,* which I simply cannot bear.

My least favorite contronym is "transparently." Are we doing this very clearly and upfront, or invisibly and behind-the-scenes? Guess. 😌

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

The current regime took a week to abolish USAID, which is three times as old and was not in the news every day for brutalizing children

After your 4th or 5th trolley problem, you really gotta abandon the lever and go fight the guy setting up all these trolley problems.

Otherwise you 1) do not get the response you want, and 2) look like a big dumb idiot baby.

It is wild to me when people want to change behavior but don't understand that. If people aren't doing what you want, change what you're giving them! Change the system, change the tutorial, change the design, but you can't blame the player. Change what *you* can control.

The golden rule of playtesting is that the player is never wrong. They're interacting with what you gave them! It's about how to design the system to get the *most* people interacting with it in the way you intend. You'll never get to 100%, but you can change the system to get it from 50-50 to 90-10

As a game developer, I think a lot about systems and the way you can create those systems to shape behavior. Some people want to follow instructions, some people want to push the boundaries. You can't change who people are or what they want to do. What you can change is what the system incentivizes.

Why would you minimize, tell people to sit back down, when you could encourage them to not stand for it? It's doomerism wrapped in superiority instead of despair and I fucking hate it.

I have run out of patience for people smugly saying "This isn't new" about whatever godawful thing is happening nowadays. What are you trying to accomplish? Proving you're better, smarter, more well-informed, etc? Is that really more important than encouraging people to take action?

I'm so sick of seeing comments like "we all knew this would happen" or "this is what our country is." It is *good* to be shocked and horrified by the awful things happening in our world. Let that horror and anger fuel you into taking action.
