Atop a spiny flower of red, orange, and green, this butterfly resembles a small, roughly triangular dead leaf, roughly 2 inches long, featuring a highly camouflaged underside. The wings are mottled with a mosaic of dark brown, black, grey, and subtle, jagged, wavy lines that look like mold or bark. A faint, jagged blue, pink-red, or turquoise band is visible across the underside.

Urgent dispatch from the desert: it is bunny bullfighting season

That I’m not sure about. Usually, they have food reserves that they’ve stored in their body over the winter. The question is have they emerged with other food sources being naturally available?

As February winds down, we’re entering peak Bohemian Waxwing season around here. Saw a group of ~80 today while snowshoeing. Looking back over the years this is the time when I see the really big flocks #birds

Found this bee not moving on the dirt by my patio. Put it on the patio & it started to walk around but didn’t seem to be able to fly.Put it in my warm bathroom while mixing sugar water & looking for flowers to see if food would help. Eventually it was flying in my bathroom! Yay! Safety put outside🐝🥰

Incredible creature!

These vermilion flycatchers like to perch on the lowest bowed branch of any nearby tree. Also, they don't mind humans too much; so, you can usually get a good shot. This guy is looking good yesterday on a flowering cottonwood.

Wow, that’s wonderful! We occasionally see them here on a little property that I manage. Usually, it’s a mom and a dad and a cygnet or two.

My friend was showing me around the Colorado Desert in Imperial County, California and I was asking if there were any black-throated sparrows around, as it looked like their habitat. My friend said yes, but ebird won't believe you. Look at this adorable guy! I love them! 🪶

Red fox kits are pretty fun to watch a couple months after they first emerge from the den. They’re bolder and incredibly playful and active, so it can make for a delightful photo session even if they no longer look like little cherubs.
