I posted this on LinkedIn to ragebait crypto-bros and arm-chair tarriff experts.

LinkedIn News is whack....

I'm tired of hearing about Astronomer and was hoping for more news on Ozzy's Legacy.

When you really think about impact...come on...no brainer.

100%

I had an engineer recently tell me that we don't need to worry about it our model will insert it meaningful. This engineer discovered the three-headed Chimera I can become when I see bullshit being spouted.

Two years ago through my life way out of balance....and today, I feel more balanced then I've ever been in my life.

so, yea....it's been interesting.

16.07.2025 13:09 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Sure, still deeply interested and like what I do for a living...more so about helping other grow than any of my mine own success.

Still a super committed father making fart jokes with kids. Still in love with my wife who brings strengths where I lack.

Mainly, I just don't care about my ego.

16.07.2025 13:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Now to the interesting part....I'm OK with all of this. The disentegration of stories of who I was, letting go of an identity facade, and spending more time looking inward.

I know it sounds bleak...but I'm finding these last two years full of wonder of what I'll learn.

Now, I balance my role and responsibilities...but it's only a small facet of my life. Things I used to identify with as part of me (Drums, games, brewing, etc.) have been hard to hold onto. They just seem that important or precious anymore. I find myself dropping out of community more and more.

16.07.2025 13:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Cynically I could say this lay off drove me into spirituality and now I eschew everything about my past...but that would be incorrect.

I did get a better, kept that until laid off again, and now I have an even better job.

But something internally had shifted. I greatly detached from things.

I began to deeply and thoroughly re-evaluate my life. I never was the person who let his career define my entire personality, but it was important enough to care about to have enough success to translate into supporting my family. When that went away...Fear engulfed me.

A very interesting thing happened to me two years ago; I got laid off.

That's not really interesting or unique anymore...but what followed was more interesting. I had an experience that pulled me out of one of the deepest pits of despair I was ever in.

My "homeland" is a run-down, poor street in Pittsburgh with Polish grandmothers making pierogis, Haitin kids who invited everyone to play basketball at the park, Italian guys running a a health club (while smoking), and many others who really made my childhood expansive and rich.

And the ego has to/must be dropped.

This ego is the poison pill that will take "having principles" to creating a toxic environment that destroys team members.

I've had many great managers who weren't designers, but were great people leaders...they grew me more than any design-background managers.

When I moved into people mgmt, I knew my design competencies were going to play a more supportive role than direct.

14.07.2025 14:42 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is such an interesting discussion; it's one I've had with designers and design managers frequently.

Good designer doesn't translate into good manager; it's a different skill set entirely. Good managers create empowered teams. A designer moving into mgmt needs to develop people mgmt skills.

One of my favorite movies has this unique and terrifying sound design element that part of the DNA of the film....Anyone else a fan of THEM!?

Jurassic Park Theme (1000% Slower) NEW NEW Download link (3/12): http://www.mediafire.com/?irhf0llfskv3590

Mostly, I can't listen to anything with lyrics during the day when I'm doing "Thinking work"...it's too much of a distraction. So there is a lot of ambient stuff I listen to.

But...but...this gem is worth sharing....the OG Jurassic Park Theme but 1000% Slower.
