Why are no headlines focusing on the unconstitutional and dictatorial nature of this action?

This flew under the radar, but thanks to Trump's EPA cuts, Energy Star could shut down for good.

Energy Star isn't just a sticker on your appliances. It's an important program that saves consumers $40B/year.

So much for all that talk about "efficiency."

Criminals deserve due process because due process is literally how we determine whether someone is, *in fact*, a criminal

The refusal to provide people due process before shipping them off to foreign prisons is criminal and intolerable. It must not be normalized. Everyone who believes in justice and America needs to speak up now.

This is notable from Timothy Snyder's review of 'KL'↑. (Also at https://archive.md/pnAOU)

I'll leave you to mull over the reverberations of these ↓↓ two sentences.

Memoirs of the Murdered Timothy Snyder reviews “KL: A History of the Nazi Concentration Camps” by Nikolaus Wachsmann.

Reposting my review of Nikolaus Wachsmann’s superb history of the German concentration camp system, "KL." It’s a good time to read this book.

2/4. The entire practice of the Holocaust of the Jews involved zones of statelessness. It is easier to move people away from law than it is to remove law from people. Almost all of the killing took place in artificially created stateless zones.

Liberals these days do not want to talk about the fact that democracy is how we got to where we are. They blame SCOTUS or gerrymandering or money in politics, etc. All of that is a product of democracy too. Let's be honest with ourselves.

The 2024 election had conditions in which voters chose between democracy and the rule of law, and the rule of law lost. And now, democracy -- the liberal kind that we want -- is dead and there's no telling when it will come back.

Of course, the question is: what's the alternative. There is none. Democracy is the best humanity can do. But let's not talk about as if everyone understands what it is. It can be liberal. It can be illiberal. It can be authoritarian.

I think Democrats should stop talking about democracy, not because voters zone out when they hear the subject, but because democracy is what delivered this hell. It is not the universal good Democrats, all of them, believe it to be.
