Have you wondered how medieval inquisitors gathered the names of suspected heretics?
We have some answers based on a quantitative study of the Stettin inquisition (1393-94).

I have been wrestling with these questions, in light of my work on understanding local medieval pilgrimage. Great to have some fresh insight and perspectives!

05.02.2026 10:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My comment was in no way denying what you wrote above in terms of funded HE and completion rates!
04.02.2026 22:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Part of this is true. However, we in Sweden are currently suffering cutbacks and the third-party funding race is definitely on. We are also having to cut back on courses and programs based on our expertise. The question is how long we can keep it up.
04.02.2026 22:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I really want to stress that this is not some form of wishful thinking. It is an understanding of higher education that stands in opposition with the model that brought us graduates in crippling debt, adjuncts being fired for teaching difficult subjects, and a rat race for third party funding.

31.01.2026 11:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In 2021 I was telling people in my field of art history to stop legitimizing the use of image recognition, to stop applying for grants to use AI in identifying the subjects of portraiture bc this was what such work was being used to further. All this was obvious. theconversation.com/how-ai-is-hi...

26.01.2026 12:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0New scam journal alert for #DigitalHumanities! Digital Humanities and Society Studies - not just predatory, but fully AI-generated with fake authors (or in at least one case, a recognizably stolen name). The publisher's been flagged before as being shady, but this journal is particularly egregious.
23.01.2026 20:43 β π 8 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0It is good to know (and be reminded) that more people are doing this! :)
That is a tough question! It is a limited public but it is still somewhat public - so I would say it is in a way.
Totally agree it's a shame!
23.01.2026 15:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Proficiency in a non-English language was a requirement at UBC for your BA before. Different options, including taking a Grade 12 non-English language credit. Otherwise, you had to take a course or pass a language proficiency exam.
I checked. They took the language requirement away in 2024 at UBC!
Isn't that still a general requirement for your undergrad degree in BC? I agree that it's awesome and important, and that requirement should never disappear! :)
22.01.2026 20:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, of course. I'm not quite sure what you mean (?), but my post was a response to the general outcry of "if you aren't saying anything about current affairs you are complicit"... to say I am actually doing something. Just maybe not constantly posting on social media.
22.01.2026 20:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Back to teaching this week, more than I have had in years due to the saints project. Bit of an adjustment. In my first-year-level course on historical theory & method, I may have mentioned my take on current events & issues with commercial gen-ai. Hopefully can make a small difference this way...
