12.02.2026 15:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0thereβs a fair point to be made that there could be more substantial policy proposals being floated to rein this stuff in. but I think people have a lot of bitterness and resentment on this topic that is understandable, and I think any conversation about AI has to reckon with that too.
12.02.2026 14:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the sales pitch for AI tools has also been largely the same this whole time; boosters promise it can do all these powerful things, but the use cases advertised to the public are largely trivial tasks. companies are fixing things that arenβt broken with AI. all of this is dogshit marketing!
12.02.2026 14:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0to go back to the βinevitabilityβ thing, I think whatβs different here is how AI is being foisted on everyone in about 200 different ways. if this shit were so inevitable, why would that be necessary? people can naturally see the use of rideshare, harder to make a case for the creepy chatbot
12.02.2026 14:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this is what is already happening with certain types of jobs thanks to AI: deprofessionalization. itβs not just bad for these industries, itβs bad for everyone. the goal is to train all of us to accept lower standards across the board.
people see it happening already and are rightfully embittered.
it should be something to organize around, but itβs mostly presented as a thing we all have to rollover and get used to. but we have examples of why this is bad.
the real innovation of uber and Lyft was effectively taking cab drivers out of the regulated system and making them freelancers
the βwe have to reckon with the fact that it will replace our jobsβ convo is a dead end for most people, a road to hopelessness. have employers been using it this way? yes. does that make it a suitable replacement? in many cases, no. it is a tool for deprofessionalization across industries.
12.02.2026 13:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βno im not talking about ChatGPT, im talking about boobap etcβ
another reason why these convos are infuriating is that itβs rare two people are referring to the same product. the confusion is by design and most regular ass people are at a loss for neutral sources of info on AI, LLMs, etc
this is why all the AI commercials are like βuse this groundbreaking tech to book a doctors appointment!β
use this tech to do simple easy tasks so it gets integrated into your life and can quietly surveil you all day every day yay!
AI has problems, the kind that are meant to be addressed with regulations. the AI guys are part of a movement towards a post-regulatory environment where they get to beta test their toys on the general public and harvest untold amounts of data in the process. end utility to the user is immaterial.
12.02.2026 13:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0theyβve literally come to regulate themselves thru this βforgiveness not permissionβ approach because it more or less worked on enough lawmakers and now thatβs just the way they talk all the time: itβs coming, get used to it
but itβs not really inevitable, itβs coercive
the annoying thing about discussing AI is the so-called βinevitabilityβ factor. itβs coming and you might as well get used to it, as it were. tech companies adopted this tack to force the gig economy into being, strong arming cities to accept uber, Lyft, lime, etc. without pesky regulations first
12.02.2026 13:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0any conversation about AI that attempts to separate the tech itself from its harms to labor, the economy, and the environment, is just not an honest conversation and thatβs why a lot of people get mad. π€·
