Bars make huge batches by just pureeing and straining fresh tomatoes but to me this is a nice byproduct when I am baking something with tomatoes. Or if I’m doing a pico I will dice and salt the tomatoes and leave them in a strainer over a bowl for a bit.

Basically sliced and salted tomatoes and put them on a rack over a baking sheet. Wanted to draw out moisture so my tart wouldn’t be soggy. The resulting salty liquid makes a great “brine” in a dirty martini.

When I salted my tomatoes on a rack for the tart I made tonight, I saved the liquid they let off so I could have a tomato water dirty martini tonight.

Got so much done today! Cleaned my bathroom, tidied main floor, main floor floors including mopping with the Tineco, over some furniture around, cooked a nice diner, and caught up on laundry! Nice day off before my two biggest workdays of the week.

Paint and switching to warm white light bulbs will take a place from sterile to cozy so fast!

Tossed with cider vin, balsamic, honey, olive oil, basil, salt, and pepper.

After par baking, spread tart bottom with whole grain mustard. Top with tomatoes. Sprinkle with feta and herbs. Drizzle with olive oil, hot honey, salt, pepper. Bake again at 350°, keep an eye on it to get the crust done right. I didn’t keep an eye on the timer but like 20 mins.

The tart: store bought puff pastry. Rolled out a bit, put on parchment, folded over edges then topped with parchment and another sheet tray for weight. Baked at 400°F for 15 mins. Removed from oven. Meanwhile tomatoes are sliced and salted on a rack over a sheet tray.

Summer dinner: garden salad, marinated peaches with burrata and sourdough, and a tomato feta tart.

Jon, Claire, and I all got stung by jellyfish in the gulf once, and it was not fun!

We bought this desk in 2006, it has stuck with us from Arkansas to SC to Arkansas and now to two different houses in Denver. It isn’t the prettiest but it comes together with zero tools or screws and comes apart to be completely flat. A desk you could store under a bed!

Had a console table here that worked in our last house but not so much in this one. Yesterday I spotted my old Pier1 puzzle desk in the garage and asked Jon if he’d like to have a desk in this corner of the dining room instead. Boom!

Even the kid says it didn’t hurt! I just thought it was a strange way to describe the incident (which I am sure was scary). Congrats to that kid for the epic story he can tell the rest of his life.
