As a gay white woman, when I think about the fact that Bari Weiss is a gay, white, Jewish woman who promotes white straight anti-LGBTQ+ misogynists, white nationalists and sexual predators, it’s clear that due to her unearned platform we’re all being forced to deal with her self hate and insecurity

Love this! It’s similar to research showing the wide range of physical, mental, emotional health benefits when ppl have access to trees/green space! This is what my terminated NSF CAREER climate justice action research project is all about, and why I’ll always fight to move this work forward!🌲🌎💚

I teach a university course, obviously not geared toward the pub. But it’s important to think of what climate justice bar talk could look like! I lean into stories first (before science) focusing on urban/extreme heat - how does it impact farmers, prisoners, elderly ppl, construction workers….

And if it wasn’t erased it’s whitewashed! I teach a climate justice course that starts with a basic question: who lives where and why? You cant understand environmental/climate injustice today w/o knowing how federal laws forcibly removed Native ppl, Black Americans were banned from owning houses

Climate denial is about protecting big oil for the most part, and my climate justice course is an elective course, students take it by choice. I don’t shy away from historical facts in service of conspiracy theories, if there’s no one to lead don’t we all become followers?

The methods course is so inspiring because it shapes how teachers attend to young people’s diverse ways of knowing, forms of brilliance - and in turn shapes students’ futures too - who is seen and supported as a science type person etc. I wrote this commentary in case it’s of interest

I had to miss the last class due to a grant deadline (to support my stolen NSF work)😭. What an honor to take this 101/02 series! Bluesky to big time! There is hope I think though! As we celebrate Thanksgiving I remember the pure fiction story I learned and was like if my elementary school-aged twins come home with pilgrim art etc! But their school (and many) rocks, practiced gratitude and went on a field trip to learn about the Ohlone ppl/lands

Agree, I respect dogs on leash but I get so angry with SO MANY dog owners whose off leash dogs would charge at my twins (they seem to love toddlers) or me recently after abdominal surgery while the owner pays no care and yells don’t worry THEY’RE FRIENDLY….like, I don’t have to love your dog

I grew up in Green Bay WI and we visited my grandparents in the UP often (where my parents grew up). Very cool to see a NYT story about this area. Sending to my fam! 🫶🏼

As someone who had their dream NSF CAREER grant stolen, reading this rubs. DOGE took our grants, jobs, life’s work, dignity! Govt waste was never a goal, simply a cover. It was wildly successful at its real mission to ruin American science, degrade the entire federal workforce (see Russel Vought)
