I had a frustrating day painting day yesterday (trying to learn watercolor online is THE PITS), but then I drew these two weirdos (one of whom is, I think, Dan Harmon) and felt like "Oh I actually can make interesting things".

I've started messing with some similar techniques in my drawings. Watching Twin Peaks has really messed with my head lately, as well. I really dig this one and I hope you will too.

One of my favorite things she did was to add extra bits of anatomy-extra heads growing out of shoulders and multiple bodies literally intertwining and then untangling again. It's a little bit body horror but it's very interesting.

Jenny Saville had an exhibit at the Modern Fort Worth in December and January. She's a master. She knows anatomy, but she also knows when to do something interesting and abstract with the paint.

6) Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me-Just finished watching the OG Twin Peaks. This fills out the world established on the show without answering a lot of the lingering questions. (I really liked it). It's wild that this got made given that it's almost completely inaccessible if you haven't seen the show

5) One Battle After Another. If Sinners hadn't happened, this is probably the best movie of 2025. It's got action, comedy, family trauma, and cuts to the quick about the current militarization of our country. Almost perfect.

I'm early in my art journey and just clarifying who I am and what I make. I love this advice! (Also, I love 1983 and Villager and I want to trick you into friendship)

The second pic is one I drew in public. Before I left, I offered it to the man in the portrait and he seemed pretty excited about it. It felt nice!

The thing that has drawn me to portraits and figures is story. Every scar tells a story. Every wrinkle points to a life. A laugh or a flash of rage show up so immediately on the face. Art with people tells a story-even if you don't know what the story is. 1/3

3) Duck Soup (1933) I've never seen the Marx Brothers! I love the silly names (Rufus T Firefly is a Mike Schur-ass name) and the slapstick. Some of the timing felt weird but they were figuring out movie comedy! I can't imagine what a sea change this must have felt like originally. 3/🧵

2) 12 Angry Men (1950 whatever)-god this ruled. I've never seen it before and it did not disappoint. A bunch of characters who feel recognizable from our current politics and one man who gives a crap that the right thing is actually done. Featuring the voice of piglet and a man born in 1884! 2/🧵
