Thank you for asking. I’ve just posted an explanation.

A few of you have noticed my absence here over the last few weeks and expressed their concern (thank you for that). I’ve been waiting for the right time to explain what’s happened and I think now is appropriate.

Just before Christmas my wife Karen had an aneurysm while looking after her mum. She has since been at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. They have managed to stabilise her but she remains unconscious. We learnt yesterday that the damage to her brain is too extensive for her ever to recover. We are devastated.

I know that some of you have met or interacted with Karen over the years and know what wonderful person she is.

I thank you in advance for your kind words. Please forgive me for not replying x

From long before I became a professional artist or had seriously considered becoming an architect. I used to love cycling round London, photographing buildings and painting them.

He’s as blurred to me as this small boy pushing his brother in a wheelbarrow in an Essex garden in 1973.

And yet he’s with me still, just on the edge of my peripheral vision, somewhere in the background of everything I do. And, strangely, I feel proud of him, but I don’t know why.

I reach back across the decades to try to understand that small boy, but he’s a mystery to me.

I remember that we did it, but I don’t remember anything much about how we did it. I think we worked from an aerial photograph. Did we plan it? Did we measure, carefully setting out the stones?

When I was 10 and my brother was 7 we made a small Stonehenge in the garden.
