In the UK, you could demolish a church VAT-free, but if you wanted to repair that church, you would have to pay VAT.

CHUCHYARD CROSS IN CHURCHYARD, CHURCH OF ST MARY, Cricklade - 1023108 | Historic England List entry 1023108. Grade I Listed Building: Chuchyard Cross In Churchyard, Church Of St Mary. May include summary, reasons for designation and history.

I'm fairly convinced that one of the (badly damaged) panels of the 14th century parish cross at St Mary's in Cricklade shows the presentation in the temple historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-...

I love the sense that in some ways we know less about our own galaxy than those we can see with Hubble etc... and maybe there are frustrated alien astronomers out there looking at us and wishing they could see their own galaxy as clearly as they can see ours....

Considering technological change in this period makes this smooth curve remarkable. World Wide Web, Web 2.0, social media, AI (just in the latest two years) don't even register as changes.

This is such an innovative way to present archaeological discovery! As an archaeologist trained on dry journal articles and monographs, but a #TTRPG gamer as well, I do wish there had been setting guides for the cultures I studied back in the 1980s. 🏺

72.8% agreed: democracy must be defended at all costs. But many weren't happy with the way it currently works.

"Change the voting system" was proposed as one of the solutions. We agree.

My understanding is that the structure of cooling towers makes it non-viable to keep after they are out of use. But I'd like to see one (or a group) demolished in a way that kept the footprint, and maybe lower few metres of concrete. Would make a great open air venue.
