Yep, itโs the most recent album by experimental electronic music legend Christian Fennesz, on vinyl. Only came out on CD in the west. This is a Japanese import, hence the cool obi strip.

Aside from being an extremely square list, with distinct millennial blinkers, I'd say there's a 50-50 chance it was written by AI.

28.07.2025 17:53 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes, it's pretty well-established that VDGG was a huge influence on Bowie, although I don't think he ever acknowledged it publicly (though he was perfectly happy to admit to the influence of Scott Walker, who had more mainstream cultural cachรฉ).
27.07.2025 00:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Well, I was mostly joking. But it's true that punk and prog were essentially different factions of the same 'underground' scene. And that Hammill and VDGG were especially huge influences on punk, post-punk and new wave (especially PIL, The Fall, and Soft Cell).
26.07.2025 15:16 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0As well as being punk, post-punk, new wave, and goth, The Banshees were pretty ahead of the curve in terms of being a neo-psychedelia act (but the Television Personalities probably got there first).
25.07.2025 23:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That seems pretty accurate. The Banshees were never really new pop because they weren't a political band that raided the pop charts. They were glam rock fans who formed a punk band and got really popular. Of course, this also raises the goth issue.
25.07.2025 23:10 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0All the music mentioned above was, of course, primarily influenced by Peter Hammill and Van Der Graaf Generator.
25.07.2025 23:08 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There's also 'new pop', which is the 'second British invasion' groups who emerged from post-punk after Green from Scritti Politti had a nervous breakdown and decided he should be making mainstream pop music. If new wave is pop pretending to be punk, new pop is punk pretending to be pop.
25.07.2025 23:05 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Nowadays, shitty indie rock bands universally brand themselves as 'post-punk'. Ten years ago, they said 'garage rock'. Early 2000s bands like Franz Ferdinand might be described as 'post-punk revival'. Currently, we're experiencing a minor post-punk revival revival.
25.07.2025 23:03 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0To my mind, post-punk started at the same time as punk and ended around 1983-4. New wave is punk-styled pop music. In reality, any given vaguely alternative rock band from 1976-84 might be described as 'punk', 'post-punk', or 'new wave' (think Siouxsie & The Banshees).
25.07.2025 23:02 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0'Reformation' is dreadful, but it's not the one I'm thinking of. The White Fence bloke was def on that, but maybe he also came back to guest on 'Re-Mit'? I like a lot of post-Scanlon Fall, but 'The Unutterable' and 'Imperial Wax Solvent' would be the high-points for me.
