Entomologist 1: Hmm, what should we name this one?

Entomologist 2: Well, its red spots make it look as though it’s been stabbed. Twice.

Using AI and remote sensing, we found no yield advantages for crops outside origins.

Scientists have been publishing climate models since ~1970.

A good way to evaluate their skill is to compare what they expected to happen in the years after the model was published to observed climate changes.

It turns out most models were pretty spot-on:

Graphic full of data illustrating the inefficiencies of cars

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

If I can't access the paper anywhere online (i.e., through my institution or researchgate etc), I often just email the corresponding/lead author and ask them if they can share a PDF of their study. Nobody I have asked has ever refused, I guess most people are happy someone cares about their work!😊

Graphical abstract of a scientific paper showing drawings of a helicopter fertilizing a forest, a harvester cutting down a tree and a tree stump next to a pine sapling with ectomycorrhizal fungi on its roots. In a 2 panel figure data on the organic layer carbon stock in fertilized and unfertilized forests is shown. In the left panel right after clearcutting, where there is a larger carbon stock in the previously fertilized clearcuts. In the right panel 4-13 years after clearcutting, when there is no longer a significant difference in soil organic layer carbon stocks.
