Is there a way to get people to understand how counterproductive preventing normal people who dont have the time/luxury to protest is? Seems like it would also be a problem in France but i have no idea.

Thanks for engaging in good-faith! I think that the average TA has to respond to the same question 100+ time or explain the same concept or correction, having a TA helper is useful. Sometimes TA's aren't available for profs, so this will help them spend more time mentoring students or researching.
