Difficult but necessary read.
From the article, an observation that comes up repeatedly in harassment, abuse, and discrimination complaints:

I'm also a big fan of Jane Harper. I'd start with The Dry. It's part of a series, and you can watch a very good movie version on Netflix afterwards
Wall Street Journal headline and deck: "New York Shooting Puts Mamdani on the Spot Over Policing Views: The killing of four people in a Midtown office building rattled a city where mass attacks are rare and violent crime has declined."
It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

Two points:
Republicans are counting on Democrats being concerned about the "moral high ground" and not acting to counter them
Why is serial loser Beto O'Rourke still taking up space in the political sphere of Texas? He has been rejected again and again. He just wants attention
The right has long attacked Mamdani over his thoughtful positions on crime but recently these attacks have intensified, manipulatively invoking domestic violence victims. The backlash is rooted in the lie that cops make women safer, @kylietcheung.bsky.social reports.

Epstein hiring Giuffre away from Mar-a-Lago was the cause of the breakup of the Trump-Epstein friendship. Epstein took something that was Trump's. DT doesn't care about the child trafficking. It's all about possessions.

Finally got around to a) reading, and more importantly b) finishing Kelly Link's The Book of Love. It was on the NYT best 100 books of 2024 list, but I know I shared on here the concerns of a magical band director that brought back three of his former students from the dead to perform magic tasks
29.07.2025 13:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I saw a prime ex of this at the last NASM meeting, where a school was promoting its new pop music program: Jazz and Pop. First, that is a complete, old-white-person understanding of style relationships, and second, the audition repertoire for pop was all from the 1960s/70s.
29.07.2025 13:47 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love that schools are becoming more stylistically open - my biggest observation now is that genre/stylistic purity is antithetical to current students (among other issues). But I do worry that most schools don't have the expertise to teach multiple styles, especially pop. We're amateurs.

Iβm watching my trans students have to be hospitalized bc of self harm. I worry about my friends and family members getting snatched by a secret police force. I worry that my LGBTQ+ colleagues being physically harmed.

It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.
