One of my favorite personal realizations I am having lately is just a great acceptance for what was, what is, and what will happen.
Maybe it’s the stoicism finally cementing its roots into my soul, but the amount of peace I have been feeling lately is undeniable

Another book for the lineup. Luckily this one is pretty short but I’m sure it’ll be full of interesting things to think about.

Thank ya! Just bought a new book today as well. Philosophy has become my favorite topic of books lately and I would have never guessed that for myself years ago

And more so a study of the practice itself.
I’m enjoying it so far nonetheless

I’m not a journal person. I never have been.
However, I’ve successfully written in a journal almost every work day for about six months now and I’m very proud of it.
I’ve now moved onto daily Stoicism journaling and so far so good. I think this is working out better because it’s less about me

Discipline is Destiny was a fantastic book imo. I really enjoyed how this was written and it’s the first one I’ve read in his virtue series.
I enjoyed it so much I pre-ordered the last one, Wisdom Takes Work.

I appreciate that. I definitely have my moments where I’m anxious of aging and what’s to come, but there’s also a power to the wisdom of being older that just kinda rules lol

Finally finished this book. I mostly read snippets of it before bed and it made me think a lot about people pleasing and how people process stress.
I highly recommend it

entitled people. We don’t have walkable cities, we can only drive - So no socializing. We don’t have specialty grocery stores where you know the staff anymore, just big corporate megastores. We are encouraged to leave our family homes at 18, not living with extended family.
Theres many more reasons

American here. Culturally we were told the American dream was that we were in charge of our own destiny, how much money we make, how popular we are, etc.
It all sounded great on paper (which is why back in the day people flocked here from all over)

I will be 36 in feb. I see the wear of time on me starting to creep in. But underneath the occasional fretting that’s starting to stir, I also feel a sense of peace? Like with age I’m becoming more quiet and calm and sure of myself.

Another 5am morning, this time the weather was quite cold and crispy as I walked my dog!

A great mini lesson in voluntary discomfort I’ll say lol

Say what you want about Ryan Holiday, but I really love his stoicism books.

I’m currently reading Discipline is Destiny (loving it) and I pre-ordered Wisom takes Work

After reading Lives of the Stoics, I became really interested in learning about Nero (because that guy sucks), so I found this translation (kindle only unfortunately) and I’m excited to dive into it.

I enjoyed learning about the Stoics from a historical perspective. I'm looking forward to re-reading Meditations with what I know now in mind

I really enjoyed this book.
As a history fan, it was really interesting reading each of these major stoics mini biographies and learning how they all interconnected together

Burnout recovery time starts now. Too long have I been tethered to the hustle and grind culture mindset.
Capitalism is a disease.
It’s time to put all this down.

I just had an β€œa-ha” moment while reading today.

I’m going to go take a walk and think on it a bit more.

I’ve successfully been keeping a journal for a little over a month now.
I just write whatever is on my mind first thing when I get to work in the morning where I have time to be unbothered.
Stoicism is a lifelong practice, and little quiet moments like journaling before work makes me feel a way

I’m not super well versed in Nietzsche, but I do know that it clashes with Stoicism in quite a few ways (and that’s ok!)

Regardless, I’m looking forward to reading this book - I think it will be a nice no-nonsense parallel to how stoicism handles tech and attention spans.

It’s been slowly happening for years now, things are certainly ramping up.
I’m not on the west coast where the big protests are, but I do know the east coast ones (at least where I am) are set to be in the upcoming weeks

Which is better in your opinion, to know many skills so that you are flexible and can adapt quickly, or being a master of one single thing?

Exactly. I’m interested in learning more about the men themselves as a lot of the stoic philosophy books pretty much all say the same thing (which isn’t a bad thing!), but I’m ready to deep dive into the people a little more

Finally wrapped up this book (with many notes and highlights added) and I must say I really enjoyed it!

I especially liked the final chapter where it listed out practical ways to practice stoicism and the authors personal anecdotes

If I had to pick an ancient stoic β€œmentor” it would be Epictetus.
He doesn’t care how loud the world is, so long as you can still hear your own voice.

Who would you pick / is your ancient philosopher β€œmentor”?
